• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Retirement , what is the end game.

And let’s be fair … the guys manning passport control in any country have a difficult job as those who should not be there present themselves as those who should. Equally, the UK (as do many other countries) has its share of those having the symptoms mentioned. It would be a shame if this...

I’d suggest using the email facility rather than the online questionnaire. It also makes it easier if you want to forward it on to your MP. I was positively surprised to get a response and follow on questions from my MP. It may be that being in a rural constituency he realises there are...

'Carpentry helped me recover the use of my hands' -

The joint at the base of the thumb (I don't remember what it's full name is but it's short name is the CMC), is particularly prone to osteoarthritis. As we get older instability in the thumb muscles is thought to lead to the condition developing. I wonder if there is something in playing the...

I used up a couple of oak offcuts to make this ... ... I think it's called a tote. It was made up as I went along and consequently the measurement for the handle mortice was wrong. This quickly became a design feature. I did put the two offcuts through the PT but otherwise it's hand...

Retirement , what is the end game.

When my son lived at home we had a bit of an in joke that taking the dog for a walk was referred to as dogging. Unfortunately my wife didn't make the connection with the strange activity that allegedly goes on in car parks after dark as she answered my mobile while I was out walking the dog and...

Retirement , what is the end game.

Mike makes a good point. Four years ago one of our neighbours (who was also a good friend) died suddenly. He’d carried on working until he was in his late sixties and had big travel plans that he and his wife were about to embark on. It knocked me for six and I decided to retire as “there’s...

    Flooding

It will depend on the circumstances. Comprehensive car insurance covers accidental damage. If the driver deliberately ignored traffic signs or warnings, drives into a water course and was swept away the insurer could reasonably argue that it wasn’t accidental. There was an instance a few...

    Chestnut Hard Wax Oil

It should be okay. If it has gone thick a splash of white spirit (or Osmo’s thinner/brush cleaner) is all it needs.

    Chestnut Hard Wax Oil

I use the Chestnut HWO having previously used Osmo and find it to be a much better product. It is less viscous than Osmo, quicker to dry and can be built up to a higher quality finish. I’ve had no issues with skinning.

    New to me AI scam

Some organisations use a tool that analyses the voice of the customer to identify them when they make contact by phone. In some instances this may replace the need for security questions but it's unlikely to be the sole means of verification as what are referred to as other "security tokens"...

Steve, the EU regulations (Payment Services Directive 2) provide strong consumer protection so hopefully while you are stuck with the inconvenience the bank (not you) will bear any loss. In short, provided you have not done something like write your PIN number on the card (and yes, some...

I got it second hand from the Old Tools Store stall at Harrogate Mike (I think it’s made by Pfeil) … and it does cover up any blemishes!
