• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Hello, good morning and welcome...

We should be able to remove our internal doors to make a shelter a lot faster now we have cordless tools, back in the day they would have had to use a manual screwdriver to undo those slotted hinge screws.

    Hello, good morning and welcome...

Yes old jeff has a clever business model that is in essence nothing more than a pipeline from Asia into the UK and Europe, a lot of people just giving a few quid will go towards a bigger boat and I bet he does not eat sausages on his boat, probably roast exotic something.

    Hello, good morning and welcome...

It can be positive, you have to do those things you keep puting off and it saves money because you cannot buy online.

Moving an outside mains stopcock. Or not.

Think creative here, just have a nice plant pot above on the new terrace which could either hide the extended valve handle or the pot becomes the handle, a 1/4 turn pot !! But they are happy to take your money, I assume this pipe also feeds your neighbours house and what would happen if you...

    Printing

But a Pc can do many task that a phone or tablet just cannot do, just thinking of multiple screens is a great help and I would not attempt even a simple program using something like MPLAB for software or Matlab for engineering and scientific application development. Then even basic office...

Moving an outside mains stopcock. Or not.

Forget the old multiturn "stop cocks" and just fit a Peggler 1/4 turn lever ball valve, they are WRAS approved and make shutting off the water very quick and easy. Keeping things simple is always the best method.

    Printing

I really do not know why they still fit any screen on the actual printer itself, to small and the menu systems are not easy to navigate. The printer is connected to your Pc and can be fully controlled from there much easier, there is no need to touch the printer to print or scan apart from...

Moving an outside mains stopcock. Or not.

Do you have a water meter with the stopcock in the street ? This allows everything after this to be isolated so why is there another stopcock outside, ie the Talbot ? This is where a water meter can be fitted and is this why this Talbot was installed ? I would not cover this up, to much...

    Printing

Hi there I have got the HP Smart Tank 7006 and what a nice printer. Before this I had many Epson cartridge printers that were hopeless and printing was a nightmare as well as a few Hp cartridge printers which were no better. I did have a tank printer many years ago but that was a retrofit...

It has only just dawned on me why those plugs and sockets looked odd, I forgot you are in Canada !!

    hacked debit card

You were lucky as you spotted the fraud, it seems many people don't and because they just wave their card on the machine are getting ripped off. Some retailers apparently are deliberately overcharging because the customers are not checking, there was something on Tv about this. Also we are...

    Yes another bathroom reno.

Barhrooms are just a PITA, everything seems to want to resist or get in the way. The way to approach them is to get the layout clearly defined and then sort out the largest pipework first, ie 4 inch soil and stack, then the 50mm from the shower ending up with the 40 and 32 mm waste...

    Sausages

Sausages can be like pies, a good place for butchers to put stuff that they could not sell directly as people would be horrified and then you get your nitrates and nitrites to improve something, might be binding. What you don't want to do is to actually think about the process, they grind up...

Help please with RJ45 - RJ11 cable problem

not to mention a bag full of RJ11 connectors as they are normally sold in bags of 50, cheap as chips though.

    Multimeter / s

If you find the screws are coming loose then replace the sockets with MK Logic Plus Rapid Fix These use lever terminals that don't come loose but you do not get the choice in decorative finishes. https://professional-electrician.com/features/logic-plus-rapid-fix-review-mk-electric/

    Multimeter / s

A ring circuit is tested for both continuity and bridging, for continuity most meters would suffice but for the bridging test you need a very precise low ohm meter. Rings can be a right PITA to test and an even bigger PITA to rectify when faults are found because people just love to mess...

Are all NVR switches the same?

They fall into two basic categories, the compact plastic ones found in most DIY machinery and then the industrial Direct Online Starter (DOL) used in industry and with a built in adjustable overload. Make sure the pull switch is not a 6 amp one for lighting, you need something higher rated...

Help please with RJ45 - RJ11 cable problem

That is potentially a good idea, just extend one end of the existing cable using as shown above and then any crossover that has been done in the RJ45 to RJ11 is as is.
