• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Uses 'electrickery' so... Cross line laser unit

The one thing with at least half decent tools is that they have a resell value whereas cheap tools are disposable. This means you may own them but at some point when your needs have been met you just sell them.

Uses 'electrickery' so... Cross line laser unit

Why not just use a decent level, probably more precise than a cheap laser. I have used some cheap lasers and they all ended up in the recycling but now have a Huapar S04 multiline laser which is good for most things but not as precise as my Stabilla digital level.

Best way to keep a partially drunk bottle of wine - a novel approach ?

Well I can give you an idea for keeping half used tubes of silicon and the like usable, you simply stick them so as the nozzle and lower part of the tube is in water which gives an airtight seal unlike tape or clingfilm.

    Conversion - bathroom to en-suite

Looking at some of your pictures it is almost requiring an archaeological survey, those pipe fittings are antique and why is there so much rubbish under the floors. This bit of plunbing says it all about that bodger who sold you the house, is it plumbing or some attempt at modern art.

    Workshop on a slope

I suppose building it into the ground like an anderson shelter will help security, just a door to make secure and no prying eyes.

    Workshop on a slope

Always cheaper to get it done right first time even if it cost more than you thought, reworks are just added expense. You would need to address the damp issues and no natural light.

    Workshop on a slope

Several reasons why, volt drop is the obvious one. There is no such thing as say 30 amp cable, the longer the run then you have to increase the CSA so the correct size for a 10 metre run will probably be way to small for a 100 metre run. Your sparky will probably run just a two core...

    Workshop on a slope

Remember if you put it a long way down your garden you will have to lug all your materials that far as well, and probably any finished items back up the garden. Why ? You will be digging out footings so just dig a trench and lay a duct. You will need more cable but 10mm 2 core SWA is...

If you have an area just for beginers then how do they learn if no experienced people visit, how did we learn in the real world ? We would be working with skilled people so we learn and could be taught, we were not on our own. The worst place for beginners to try and learn is you tube as...

what's bad about getting shot of old ceramic tiles, I am surprised that non were fixed down with chewing gum as that last owner seems to be a highly skilled bodger.

    Simple door

I thought story sticks might have originated way back in the British ship yards, maybe to do with patterns and that rods might have been American since there are some rods made by Veritas called bar gauges.

    Simple door

Are these rods just the same as a story stick, can be something fancy with adjustable markers or just a length of ply with details marked to locate anything from available space to position of pipes to avoid and electrical backboxes.
