• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Conversion - bathroom to en-suite

At least they made the wall out of 4 by 2's just a shame they cut them to short. The wiring looks DIY and I wonder what else you will find that that bodger has done which is waiting for you to find.

    New to me AI scam

Not sure how this works, I have had issues with my bank and I am the account holder but having failed there security questions and it got locked, I had to go through a verification process which is simple if they had a bank anywhere near local to get things reset. So how does an AI voice...

    Conversion - bathroom to en-suite

Looks like you are in for a lot of plumbing work, but then if the electric's have all been bodged then he was just as capable of bodging the pipe work as seen by the mess of plastic fittings and spaghetti pipework in the loft space but at least it was not hidden. He did not go from a vented...

    Kitchen cabinet door thickness

Is that woodworking !! Can't you get one of those electronic translator gagets to help speak with the locals ? English in and french out & visa versa.

    Kitchen cabinet door thickness

Looking at you tube and looking in some books because I am knocking up some doors it seems a common method is Tulip wood for the stiles and rails with either a ply or mdf panel. The other method which I am not going for is an MDF panel with the stiles and rails just glued to the face.

Wouldn't it be great if ....

That advert with the rats in a camper van springs to mind, the driver rat is laying back because the vehicle is in auto cruise mode and he thinks he has to do nothing but they have a very close shave.

Wouldn't it be great if ....

That is because the car OEM's think everyone is stupid and has to be informed of everything because they might just drive with the doors open or forget someone has not fastened their seatbelt. Putting these display screens central on the dashboard to provide information overload is probably...

    Connector Systems

Forget the cost of the machine as that is a one off hit, what puts me off is the ongoing cost of the connectors, plus you have to buy at least eighty. To get going with a range of these connectors is a cost of around £300 so here the domino's oblong dowels work out much cheaper and you can...

    Google’s AI

I just look at anything AI as a virus and the old saying is very apt " ask no questions and you'll be told no lies ". On my Pc I have cleansed it of all AI including CoPilot and Ms spyware. As humans we were given a very good mass of grey mater, we should use it to exercise it and don't get...

    Twister screws

I have used them but 3.5mm into the ends, these type of boards are a pain because even using dowels can blow the board with too much glue in the hole. Pocket hole screws work well and so do the Confirmat screws, this is what you want to drill the hole...

    Twister screws

Those screws look similar to the Timco velocity, great in wood but not as good as Timco MDF screws for non wood. https://www.fischer.co.uk/en-gb/products/screws/special-screws/mdf-screws-powerfast-fdf-st-yzp 3mm backs are what you get from Wickes, 18mm is much better and gives the...

    Simple door

Why do people put a hinge in the middle, in theory it is not doing a lot because the bottom hinge is in compression whilst the top hing is in tension, having the third hinge above the mid point takes some of the load off that top hinge, you have two in tension.

    Simple door

A capped off mine shaft or some sort of cellar as they used such spaces for food storage before we had refridgeration.

If modifying the stairs is not an option then remove the problem and fit a lift, an S2 would go in there...

    Simple door

They are dangerous looking stairs, I am sure with some ingenuity Roger that you could modify them so you have a platform in the middle where the stair treads change direction so instead of that continous spiral you have two sets. I can just imagine an engineer from Stanah trying to fit a...

    Rats....electrical fault…now sorted

Having external lights supplied from the internal lights is never good practice. Insulation testing has to be performed whilst applying a voltage to the circuit, 500 volts domestic with a proper tester. But at least you have found the fault, knowing the last owner was a bodger helps...

    Temptation time

Where have you been hiding ! Look at their website and what you might find useful if you have a tracksaw is there MFT tops, fence and hinge dogs which makes cutting sheet goods really easy and good for repetitive cuts. If you have space then maybe there track hinge which is really well...

    Suggestions for excavating this hole

I had to go 85mm for my tubular latches but they do come in various lengths depending how far in the knob ends up.

    Suggestions for excavating this hole

When I fitted tubular latches to some new doors I used the trend jig, a Dewalt 625 router with guide bush and one of these bits https://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Catalogue_Deep_Pocket_233.html This allowed me to cut the recess using a trim router and the 625 to get the plunge depth for...
