• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Buildings insurance

Roger - in answer to your question at post no 3 ... It's common for buildings insurance to include a clause which applies what is know as the principle of average. This means that the amount payable will be multiplied by the sum insured/actual value. So sum insured £100k, actual value £200k...

    Buildings insurance

I’ve never heard of that type of arrangement before Roger. Presumably there is something unique about the building? The ABI have a building valuation online tool that most insurance companies use. It’s going to come down to what the policy says about what the sum insured is at the time the...

    Grandad's Garden seat

    Brilliant rescue job Roger.

Notre Dame - craftsmanship at it’s best

Tv programmes are of course generally made with an objective to maximise the viewing figures. I'd wager a shilling that the ideal programme for someone frequenting woodworking forums would have more technical detail than the majority of viewers would want. Thanks @Dr.Al for the reminder about...

Notre Dame - craftsmanship at it’s best

I’m currently on Eurostar heading back from Paris. I was particularly looking forward to seeing the restored Notre Dame. Mistakenly I thought the reopening had meant it was done but the work is still very much underway. The towers will reopen in late September which should (I was told)...

    HDL LDL

Thanks Steve … although I’m not sure a pot of tripe sounds any more appealing 😉🤣

    HDL LDL

I’m in Paris at the moment and the discussion on Marmite came to mind as I ordered lunch today … I assume it’s not the same thing!

    Timber Delivery

It’s a really enjoyable wood to work with and frequently has very attractive figuring.

First shot at an Acanthus Leaf updated with second attempt

Thanks - some good pointers and I am definitely finding that not going too long without touching up the sharpening makes it a lot easier.

First shot at an Acanthus Leaf updated with second attempt

Indeed - I’ve been copying Follansbee’s lunette design and the concentric curves cutting across the grain are particularly difficult to do accurately.

First shot at an Acanthus Leaf updated with second attempt

This is my second attempt which incorporates a lot more depth and “curliness” …

    Hosepipe ban

It is ironic. We have an underground rainwater harvesting tank which hasn’t run out despite the need for Yorkshire Water to bring in a hosepipe ban. I don’t understand when the pictures are shown of empty reservoirs in times of drought why there are not bulldozers and earthmovers deepening...

    Hard working wasps

Despite best efforts to give them a wide berth the wasps are turning out to be aggressive little blighters. The nest is also suddenly starting to grow again. I’m afraid they will have to go! Previous nests have been easy to deal with using pyrotechnics but given where this one is I think I...

    Local authority powers

Unless it has changed in the last few years yes they can. The Building Act gives Local Authorities quite wide ranging powers to deal with dangerous buildings. It’s handled by Building Control Departments. It happens sometimes after an accident or fire which damages a building and access roads...

    Blood (without the gore!)

Nice one @Malc2098. I donated last week and got a similar message showing mine went to Northern Hospital in Sheffield.

    Garden room restoration

@Doug - it would be good to see how you tackle his!

    Flies

If done without gaining the relevant planning permission then it would. Whether permission would be given depends on the listing, design of the screen and rationale for the change.

    Michael - MY63

Has anyone heard from Michael @MY63 recently? I noticed he has neither posted on here or Instagram since October last year and am hoping he is okay.

    Delivery company phrase translator

While there are many wrinkles in the systems (IT and people) that delivery and logistics companies use on the whole I’d say it works - often very well. I ordered some clear parcel tape on eBay at 6pm yesterday. I had tracking information by 8pm and it was delivered by an Amazon driver at about...

Bears using the trails. Trail cam captured four bears.

And I got excited when I found three field voles queuing up to eat strawberries ;):ROFLMAO: Do you take any action to push them away from your home Duke or just give them a wide berth?
