• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Helical vs. Spiral Cutterhead for my MiniMax FS35 JOINTER-PLANER? BRAND?

I have no personal experience with Helical or Spiral, but have observed folks looking into the options and end up with Tersa.

    Staircase modification

I've also used one of the many stair manufacturer websites to get an idea of headroom at the floor trimmer.

Blades for a DeWALT DWE7485 table saw.

Another recommendation for CMT blades. The last few CMT orders I've used https://www.mobiltecnica.com/en For me in Europe they are very competitive and there customer service has been excellent. Confession, I do like the female Italian accent.

    Fence posts

I'm a tree hugger and have had good results using old engine oil, it actually soaks into the timber and so can't see it going into the ground. Not personal tryed it in the UK damp environment but an old friend from Cornwell swears by it.

    COMPASS PLANES

Last time I needed a compass plane I bought a cheap wooden plane and shaped the sole. In my opinion it worked better than the metal Record compass plane.

    Connector Systems

I always run my top and bottoms full width and the uprights are between and then screw through the top and bottom so the screws are normally not seen. Never understood why mass production has the sides full length and top and bottom in-between, unless its just designed to fail?

    Blum Legeabox side stabilisation

Thanks Doug, I will go ahead without the stabilisers and see what happens.

    Blum Legeabox side stabilisation

Have a project that requires 1050mm wide Legeabox draws, draw has a pull handle, so not with push to open with tip-on bummotion stabilizers. My normal suppliers don't supply the side stabilizers for pull open draws and was wondering if anyone had experience on wide Blum draws and if racking is...

    Hinge fitting

Blum also make a self centering drill, not used one but guess they would be good.

    Hinge fitting

Sorry don't remember where the first set came from, they have no maker mark on them, just remember I got 3 for the price of one Trend Snappy.

    Hinge fitting

I have the Trend snappy range, not the CraftPro, would of bought the Festool version but I only found a 5mm version. I found the small cheep bits wouldn't clear the swarf so drill one hole and then stop to clean the bit.

    Hinge fitting

If you do go for self centering drill bits, don't do what I did at first and buy the economical ones, they do not work!

    Hinge fitting

Old 150 grit sand paper or business cards are great for shims. Self centering drill bits (trend snappy ) are great for drilling hinge holes.

    Finish for oak in kitchen?

I give my clients a choice of a water-based varnish or osmo top oil. Most choose the osmo top oil because of the silky smooth finish.

    Building your own kitchen cabinets?

James, making kitchens is not complicated. Ive been making them on and off for 40 years. Basically I make a box without a front out of 18/19mm MFC or marine ply, screw it together with the modern spax type board screw. Set the box on adjustable feet. I now use dominos for fitting the face...

    A Japanese style garden shed

Gary, I don’t often comment but have followed this fascinating build from the beginning. If you where to leave the shed when you move I think I would shed a tear for you, so I can’t imagine how difficult it would be for you to say goodbye. I sincerely hope we see it follow you on your new...

Rebate with spindle molder or benchsaw

often the final pass has a capillary drip or a euro groove, so a must in my case.

Rebate with spindle molder or benchsaw

Tony, I’ve used saw blades on the spindle moulder to cut out rebate/glass bead. Just be careful on the final cut as like on the table saw the off cut can be prone to kickback.

Nothing fancy, just a very useful Board Catcher

Great idea Steve!!! you should patent it. You could also add another attachment and it could double up as music stand.

Lets all stay silent, shades of pre World War 2.

Duke, we’re all being brainwashed!!!! The left and the right are just different cheeks of the same back side. Personally I think this forum should keep away from politics, religion, football etc and stick to woodworking.
