• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Horrible job to do, any tips very welcome.

Good luck Ian, that’s not a nice job! Back in the early 90’s I had a stint doing loft conversions in London, the old wool was not an issue, it was the soot from the Industrial Revolution that was the problem. Only time I ever went to a gym, to use the sauna and steam room.

Kity 619 table saw rise and fall repair

Getting those two nuts welded in the correct position is very tricky, one big nut would be easier. Good luck

    Single bevel blades

Had to do some edging in the workshop this morning, all my tools where on site so in an emergency I borrowed my wife’s Fiskas snap of blade knife, at the correct angle the edging cut beautifully. Finishes of with some 320 grit sandpaper.

    Single bevel blades

I’ve used a 1 1/4 chisel or the blade out of my block plane…..not ideal if there is lots to do. If I use the trim router only have enough blade out to just trim the edge

    Chairs - Done!

Yes very useful tutorial. With your skills I believe you could be as good as a professional upholsterer in no time. Air staplers are not expensive and well worth getting one, which is what I did when I made up a bunch of acoustic panels

Bathroom ceiling paint with slight texture? Recommendation?

I would use extra matt and hand brush.

Adrians points are spot on! For a professional go Leica or Hilti, cry once. For diy or the odd use the economical versions will work but don’t expect too much from them, especially outside unless it’s dark.

    Outside door frame - finished

All exterior timber on my property that is in close contact to the ground gets a good soaking in old engine oil and no signs of termites in 20 years. Termites are a big problem here in Southern Spain I’ve also had success in tinting new engine oil for timbers above ground. As Duke says the...

    Outside door frame - finished

Like others have said, Iroko, and yes it’s not nice to work with. My second choice would be Sipo its normally ok to work with. Or look for some tight grained pine and treat the bottoms with old engine oil.

Box (Buxus) moth - trap now

In the south of Spain we have something that looks similar, the Pine processionary caterpillars. They will destroy a pine tree, their hairs are an irritant so you can’t easily destroy the nest.

    Conversion - bathroom to en-suite

Rodger I would not use normal chipboard. Minimum would be green chipboard and glue the joints. Best option is WBP ply. CLS is nicer to work with IF it’s straight!

Ian’s new workshop. The Wonky Donkey. Ceiling joists started

The guy that taught me was an old school coffin maker, be hated the modern yankey screwdriver, I understood why when it slipped off whilst hanging a mahogany door with polished brass hinges. I remember when Philips and Pozi screws where first available to us, went out and bought a 7.2 volt...

Ian’s new workshop. The Wonky Donkey. Ceiling joists started

58 60 years ago the screws and methods of putting them in where very different to today. I don’t want to imagine trying to screw a floor down with slot head screws unless you use a London screwdriver.

Ian’s new workshop. The Wonky Donkey. Ceiling joists started

From my experience the opposite is true, many years ago I was the snagger on a house building site most of the homes completed in the winter had squeaky floors when they dried out, we had to go over the floors and punch the nails in. Ring shank nails would be a ok choice but and difficult to...

    Kitchen cabinet feet

Steve set the kick space so it’s comfortable for you, those with larger feet need more room. You might find ready made kick board in plastic or aluminium, that’s what most do here in Spain. Personally I make them out of solid wood and prime all sides and edges so they last. I throw away that...

The news moguls doing what they do best, This is AI research…..The Guardian is generally considered to be anti-Trump, often portraying him negatively in its coverage and taking a stance against his policies and actions. This aligns with its left-leaning editorial perspective. Personally I think...

    Frozen shoulder.

My father had FS and after suffering for years and having various hospital treatments that gave no relief. He was recommended by friends to see a chiropractor who he thought was a quack. I remember seeing him going for his first treatment in agony and coming home pain free. He changed his...

    And just when I thought...

That’s a relief Steve, I had a similar situation and my bank made it right very quickly. Unlike a good friend of mine that had a very large amount taken from his bank 18 months ago and now doesn’t look like they will make it right. How do you take a bank to court without costing a small fortune...
