• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Muntins for kitchen door

Check that the glass isn’t scratched around the glazing bars before you go ahead and reposition them. I thought about going this once until I realised the painters had left there mark.

    Festool Domino scare

Steve the Plugit comes apart. If you do a YouTube search you should find out how. I had to solder up a broken wire last week

    Festool Domino scare

Festool generally are very good quality, there leads are really bad quality, I must have had at least half a dozen fail on me.

    Ornamental lathe restoration

Wallace a friend of mine used to do a lot of guilding on timber mouldings and has done it on a few kitchens I built. From experience the only problem with guilding is when the humidity eventually gets in you lose the gold colour. Back in 2014/15 I spent the best part of a year building a library...

Alternative to wood for eg plough plane fences?

Don’t know if this would work in your case but I have a roll of UHMWPE tape that is used when I want to stop something wearing and needs to be slidey.

    Router jigs & accessories

I have too many router jigs, they certainly do speed up production and repeatability, but take up space so every year or so I have a clean out I make them if possible to incorporate dust extraction. For me I get great pleasure out of making them and perfecting them. Mr Maskery is the King of...

Looking for advice on window sill / brickwork finish

Simón I’m not in the uk so not familiar with the brands you suggest but they sound perfectly good. With the foam I would highly recommend the professional gun dispenser and not the plastic nozzle thing, with the professional gun you have more control.

Looking for advice on window sill / brickwork finish

The gap underneath the window where the packers are looks like it is missing expanding foam, we foam all around our windows before we think about sealant. We always use a low expansion foam especially formulated for windows and doors. The sub cill will keep out any moisture if fitted correctly...

    H&S. Cakes. Really?

Well done Steve for being part of a community and helping out, bet the cake tasted absolutely beautiful! …..unlike the packet cake that ticks all the boxes for the regulators and tastes like a robot.

Andy that’s interesting thanks, quick google shows many companies making them. I lived in France for a couple of years and apart from main st Disney never saw them used

Bed - Finished and sleepable inable!

Self confessed IT dinosaur……did think it was a little strange seeing sliding sashes in France…. I run a small window and door company so I’m always interested in how different cultures use different windows.

    Starlink and Wifi Calling

Another Starlink user here, we gave up on VOIP, could have been our provider but was not a pleasant experience. We have virtually no Mobil coverage so now just use Starlink to connect to WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal, don’t know if that’s classed as WiFi calling?

    Pork Pie Raiser?

Gosh pork pie is one of the things I miss about the uk……has to be eaten with Coleman’s mustard!

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

Looks like you are creating a structuall insulated panel which I find fascinating. I have visited a factory that produced these panels by basically filling the void between two OSB panels with a close cell insulation. Incredible strong! If the foil paper doesn't break this should work very well...

It’s bite the bullet time on a replacement cordless drill.

Over the last 40 years I've had pretty much every brand of battery drill on the market, most seemed to die with daily use. Now I seem to have only Festool and they keep charging and going year in year out. As Rob mentioned they are spendy but reliable and very nice to use….. also they are...
