• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

A client of mine that uses vast amounts of high quality marine ply tells me the best ply is produced in Russia. So with the sanctions on Russia we no longer have access to quality ply. Mike I’ve used the Formica faced popular ply that has been mentioned and it’s a pleasure to work with, big...

Regular readers will recall me saying no more renovations. Well.........

Never checked the claim that dishwashers use less water ….. I love washing up by hand and the waste water goes to the garden. My 2 cents on the no drainer fashion is the industry coping the new money jet set that have these super overpriced kitchens and never use them other than to show them...

Question for you machinist folks about auxiliary sliding extrusion on tablesaw

Tom the 42mm works well on my machine with the stock Felder crown guard. Now should you have a wide crown guard (we see them on Roblem machines) the 42 mm would need to be much bigger. I would suggest setting up your crown guard and seeing what width lip works for your machine. p.s. the lip on...

Question for you machinist folks about auxiliary sliding extrusion on tablesaw

Tom the lip on my sliding fence is 42mm. Once you have had this set up there’s no going back to a fixed fence. Duke as Jarr944 says it’s a must for a slider, use mine loads, set back from the blade as a bump stop

    Insperational ideas please

Very little experience with outward opening windows, but a little with inwards opening. What would normally be done is to use a floating mullion attached to the slave sash. ROS pad saver

Mesh discs eat up pad savers and if you don’t use one the mesh will eat up the main pad. For this reason I’ve given up with mesh and went back to paper backed discs, this way I don’t use a pad saver and the main pad will last a couple of years

    Slats in window shutters.

If using Iroko remember to clean the surfaces to remove any oils that may interfere with the adhesive. I’ve seen sash combe joints fail due to this.

    Slats in window shutters.

I’ve made a few louvered shutters for the Spanish climate and always used Sipo. No personal experience working with Meranti , I can’t buy it locally. I do know the Germans window manufacturers I work with use it extensively for window and door construction and I’ve fitted them and have had no...

    DIY Corian?

As Matt’s suggests ply would be the way I would attack it. They make a special ply for motor home conversion, from memory the core is Popular and should be readily available in 19 or 16 mm. I made all the furniture for a modern beach house from the stuff, It’s super nice to work with because of...

Sapele front door threshold: really tough clear finish?

Eric, I run a window and door company and we now use pu/polymer for all external chalking. The one we use doesn't sink like silicone or caulking, its waterproof, like caulking it take paint, and above all it acts like an extra fixing. Regarding your choice of finish for threshold, I would also...
