• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Laminated flooring - every day's a schoolday

The only things I have noted when the trade fits a laminate floor is the fancy underlay and they don't butt it up against a wall to give room for movement. The guys use a term "floating floor" which was interesting as this implies it can move around and when you dig deeper then it does make...

I will never buy another Magnet kitchen

faced particle board is expensive for what it is but a bargain when compared to decent furniture grade ply. Once upon a time there was no such thing as plywood, MDF or particle board yet people still had kitchens and made furniture. Ply has been around longer as MDF did not apppear until...

An opinion on German manufacturer attitudes.

If you think the Germans are difficult to work with then try the Japanese, they just cannot accept something is below par and don't mention terms like mean time between failures because apparently they engineer out such issues. A problem with German engineering is often complexity and living...

I don’t like our new induction hob

Roger, this made me think Is your supply to this hob sufficient for the loads, these hobs use switching power supplies to produce the higher frequency required and maybe you are getting a volt drop to the hob.

I don’t like our new induction hob

Apart from being harder to keep clean I would not use anything but a gas hobb, the Neff hobbs are so controllable with there click positions and not fussy about what type of pans you use. I also know our Woll Titanium cookware are not made for Induction hobs. On the other hand I only use...

    Grinding aluminium

I would be more concerned over those sockets, the regs say 300mm from the end of a sink but we always played safe and said you should not be able to unplug something with the other hand in the sink. That raises the question of why would you anyway !

    Screw driver

I have seen a modern version of that in the form of a chuck that fits in your drill, it holds a screw in place and you drive it home where at a set torque it releases. Sold on the basis that it allows you the freedom to hold and screw without worrying about the screw itself.

    Laminated flooring - every day's a schoolday

There are various types of this flooring all often placed under the label of laminated and with some very different problems when it comes to working with it. I brought some offcuts from my local timber merchants to use as a floor in a new wardrobe I am building, it has a 22mm plywood core...

I will never buy another Magnet kitchen

Is this not a woodworking forum and should a kitchen not be seen as a challenge and something to be made which you can then later stand back and admire knowing you made it rather than just buying some mass produced collection of boxes made from compressed saw dust. We talk about our...

Not so much a 'build' as a 'choose one and fit it out'

Reminds me of the days our milkman would turn up in his three wheeled Unigate milk float just without the rattle of milk bottles.

Not so much a 'build' as a 'choose one and fit it out'

Roger, you will be buying an EV next ! Just like Alchemy and hens that lay golden eggs there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Houston - we have a problem

I find that many couriers only attempt a second delivery and then it is collect from nearest depot or returned to sender and then the supplier wants postage paying for even if it was free first time so I can see your problem. This is from our council So they are looking at getting a...

Houston - we have a problem

A crane is the best way to lift a truss into place, they should never be laid down or man handled in such a way as to try and twist them as it stresses the nail plates. On a positive note a crane charges per hour and normally a roofer will get all the trusses lifted up and placed at one end...

Houston - we have a problem

Access and peoples rights to it are and can be a right PITA, at the end of the day those scaffolders should be courteous enough to see you before blocking the access and asking if it is ok for a given period of time. It looks like they are not just unloading the vehicle but just taking...

I will never buy another Magnet kitchen

I thought all these mass produced kitchens were done using CNC machinery and that was the concept for the euro 32 standard. To be fair I would say quality has fallen across the whole market and you are like many from a time that is now history who are used to things being right but now many...

    Any scaffolders on the forum?

To me that looks like something they call tenting, basically cover up the building before replacing the roof so it is always water tight and the work can progress without worrying about the weather. Is that old building derilect or fire damaged ?
