• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    A tad of mirth

Evidence has been found that William Tell and his family were avid bowlers. Unfortunately, all the Swiss league records were destroyed in a fire, ... and so we'll never know for whom the Tells bowled. Ok, I am on my way out.

    A tad of mirth

There were three Indian squaws. One slept on a deer skin, one slept on an elk skin, and the third slept on a hippopotamus skin. All three became pregnant. The first two each had a baby boy. The one who slept on the hippopotamus skin had twin boys. This just goes to prove that the squaw of the...

Box (Buxus) moth - trap now

Every afternoon at 16:00 I leave the study and head for the garage. First thing is a walk around the garden checking the Cycads. At the multi-head plant there was this yellow flying piece of SH1T! Fetched the poison spray bottle and dealt with it. Also sprayed all the leaves and the new growth...

    Destructive critter?

A soon as any droppings are spotted I fence off the pots. If the fence is too low the buck also do lots of eating!

    Bread Baking

Mike, yes, the process is all white flour. She also adds other 'stuff' to it, not sure what. She also bakes Date or fruit loaves, last one was with Almond flour. It is healthy for her gut. I still prefer my brown bread, but the she does buy me Panini bread rolls from the grocer bakery (that's my...

Box (Buxus) moth - trap now

We do not have your Box Moth problem, but instead a Zerenopsis lepida moth which can destroy a Cycad and Cycas in virtually one day. https://africanmoths.com/pages/GEOMETRIDAE/ENNOMINAE/Zerenopsis lepida.html On the Cycads and Cycas they go for the new leaves but can destroy a Cycas mature...

    Destructive critter?

We had porcupines that ring barked the trees, tipped over pot plants for bulbs, destroyed gardens. They were eventually caught and dispatched to a nature reserve 30km away. No good just dropping them off at the farm down the road, they have a GPS system and back here within days.

    Bread Baking

Wife looks to have this sourdough bread 'under her thumb'. This is the last loaf baked this week, tastes very good, allowed to have 2 slices. I still prefer my brown bread. She is also creative. The residue in the large main bottle is scraped out and spread onto a baking sheet. Sprinkled...

    Routers

Our main Woodworking Store in Randburg has shows during the year and also demonstrations. (65km from home + traffic so I skip) Yesterday they had a session on routers which is streamed live on U-Toob, link below. Not sure how long it is available.

I also have a piece of Bog Oak on the workbench. With my initials on. And it was used extensively when building the beehives.

Retirement , what is the end game.

Maybe, BUT, compared to Africa it is a good example. Traveling in Africa has its challenges but the customs and immigration are friendly smiling people. Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Eswantini (Swaziland), Namibia. South Africa can be a bit of a hit & miss. {Edit} Our son...

Retirement , what is the end game.

When we landed at Heathrow September 13 2001 (remember the 11th?) The counter we selected had this middle age lady who was smiling, pleasant and asked all the questions and gathered all the information required and one felt like a long lost friend. Paris, well depends on who you pick, as long as...

Praise where praise is due Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Shucks you guys sound like serious condition and headaches. You have my sympathy. The only time I really suffered from headaches was after cycling 50 to 150km. Position of crouching over the handle bars. Lie down quietly for couple of hours. Went through the Neurologist and Surgeon and MRI. It...
