• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

Excellent work Mike. (y) The louvers look good! Not much cupboard space for 2. Will you just use a cardboard box for your clobber? More than 2 nights will pose a problem.

Can we create polls on the forum ?

Ok, that is quite a mouthful, and can see your point. Here in SA a Dr script is valid for 6 months if it repeats. My nephrologist has it on her system, calls it up, changes dates, then sends to my closest nominated chemist (Dischem). I can then get the pills at any Dischem around the country...

    What I have fixed today

Afternoon late, sitting at my workbench, contemplating my navel, minding my own business. There was a loud CLICK and the lights above the bench were dead. Check DB board, earth leakage tripped. Reset and lights back on. Wife suddenly appears with her extension lead, the end bit where the iron...

    Solar Kiln, promising progress.

I am pushing 87kg again (nephrologist calls me obese). Slightly overweight for my height. Should be about 75kg which is what I weighed when cycling. I blame it all on covid lock down  and injured foot.

I have also found the replies to questions a lot more comprehensive, but just have a large salt celler close by.

    Twister screws

Steve my experience on MDF is drill, glue and screw. Glue is an excellent bond. Remember MDF is wood chips, ground, into a digester to get the fibres, then mixed with resin, formed into thick mat and then into the press. Nice, stable, flat and good for painting. The edges I would paint with a...

The benefit of a poor short term memory

I use the calendar in MS Outlook for meetings, Dr's, lunches, birthdays etc, etc. and if wife needs to know I attach her e-mail address. Set the reminders for maybe up to a week and then just snooze closer to the time. MSO is very good. It also records if someone has replied yes to the invite.

    Thicknessing jig for hand planes

Yes, definitely. (y) I just shove a board on the TP bed and thickness away, short and long pieces. The shorts require extra care and then getting them out.

    Simple door

Standing here looking at our fire door between the garage and the house - only 2 hinges. The steel frame for the door comes standard two hinges.

    Unusual winter weather.

Lots rain and floods. The north and north eastern side of the country had extensive rain. That water flows east. Mozambique lies east and gets all the water...

    Simple door

When we toured the Southern UK in 2001, I did not book accommodation but did google as I had plotted our route. When we found a place we liked I always first inspected the rooms (common practice) and all the places had these small narrow staircases going up. Lugging up 2 large cases and hand...

    Greetings from a new member

David the best part of the country is the West coast to Cape Town, then along garden route to Port Elizabeth. I worked for a box company with factories in Cape Town, PE, Durban and also inland. These required visits 4 - 6 times a year. CT I used to ride one of the long 105km races, take my bike...

    Unusual winter weather.

It does. We have had devastating rain and floods in the Kruger Park area and Mozambique suffers the worst as it all goes in their direction. The crocs are wading through all the water into villages and attacking people, very sad. Also cuts off water and food supplies.

    Unusual winter weather.

We hit 35c today. (I can't take anymore clothes off, else indecent exposure. The heat rash between the legs is starting up again.) No sign of rain, although the soil is still damp from Monday storm.
