• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Pond revamp

Instead of testing strips I used to use measuring devices from Milwaukee (*) when I had my Koi pond. They are affordable and much easier to use /accurate to read. It really helped me to keep the water quality up to par. (*) Same name, but not the Red tool maker.

    The Mighty Sturgeon

The guy who adopted my Koi when I had to stop my hobby has one in his pond. Just by looking at it I think it must be just a little bit over 2 meters big! I thought my Yamabuki and Kohaku were big at just under 1 meter, but that fish was in another class altogether!

What Is Your Self Afflicted Annoyance

Mine is checking whether I have locked the door, while knowing I did. I can't count the times I walked back to check after having locked a door just seconds before. I must be daft. Or getting Alzheimer's...

Osmo UV-Protection oil - still sticky and tacky

I agree. That doesn't look like rot at all to me. Just very soft wood that has a lot of tear out. Seeing how wide those growth rings are at that spot I am not surprised it happened exactly there. That spot will be softer than normal. But I can't be sure of the grain direction from the screen. On...

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

I already admired your skills, but now I also admire you work ethics. Man, it seems you are just unstoppable. One question (you might already have written something about it, but I can't remember): what are you going to do about those wheels? Will the be wheel arches?

Osmo UV-Protection oil - still sticky and tacky

Ignoring the obvious thing about cedar's properties: but Osmo will *always* get sticky if it is applied too thick. They recommend to use a *thin* layer, but in practise I regularly see that people apply it way too thick. In fact I see that more often than not. Especially when it is rolled on...

    Probably Bye for now...

Nope, not daft at all. That is exactly how I feel too. (y)

Well, that day didn't go to plan.

When my hamstring was fixed a long time ago I resolved to (re)learning German. I lived there as a child, but neglected it so much I was not longer fluent by any measure. But in the end I just learned another programming language (switched from perl to python). At least it gave me something to do...

So it is Spring now, for me it's still Winter

What an absolutely wonderful sight! We have a few of them, but you'd need to find them among all the wood anemone.

    Festool ts55 blades

Be careful when you buy your blades. The F version of the TS55 uses the thinner blades, just like Doug 71 wrote. Those thinner blades won't fit on the older TS55 track saws (to thin to get a proper grip on). Also beware that your riving knife has to be a bit thinner than the kerf made by the...

Well, that day didn't go to plan.

Bad luck always seems to come in waves. It is hard losing a beloved animal. All the best for both your leg and your loss.

    Festool ts55 blades

I have used sawblades from CMT for my Felder and Festool saws and have been quite satisfied with them. You can order them direct in Italy at https://mobiltecnica.it/ for a lower price than buying them through amazon or the likes. Delivery has always been quick and reasonably priced. But I am on...

Spot for a cabin, delayed for 5 years, maybe this year.

I suspect he might mean climate change? For us it is the other way round. The Netherlands is renowned for having to live with copious amounts of water. Well, this spring (as a matter of fact the last few springs now) we have a shortage of water. We definitely could use a bit of what you have in...

So it is Spring now, for me it's still Winter

I have the same problem with my vegetable garden. I always have too much seedlings. You would think I would have learned by now. But no, I always keep thinking "What if only half of it makes it?". But this year is special. Last year my favourite tree (Junglans Regia Broadview) was blown over by...

    American Ash

That was a very nicely, evenly grown branch! Most of the time in the branches I used there would be much less symmetry. Often the rings would be farther apart as well. I have made some nice shafts and walking sticks from branches that had grown straight (enough) without smaller branches along...

They're just endearing young animals with their mother. How could that be creepy?

Well, that day didn't go to plan.

Oww man, that's not good. I hope the pain isn't too bad. I tore my hamstring a long time ago (you should have seen the ball on the back of my leg). That really wasn't nice. So, I at least can imagine a bit of what it is you are going through now. I wish you a quick recovery!

    Dust extraction.

Ah, in that case I should take a better look at the photo's.
