• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Bats

Thanks Andy. Id not looked at it that way 👍 Now we need a biological pest control for cats that would be human friendly😂

    Bats

@AndyP Do bats enjoy protected status in France? I’ve never understood quite why they have such extreme protection in uk almost greater than most other creatures. For example nearly every planning application requires a bat assessment to be carried out. Ive nothing against bats btw

Dining room wall unit dresser thing

I have done wide drawers before but using metal slides and achieved near piston performance but these would be shallower so I'll possibly chicken out. I've managed to draw a couple of options of scallops on the side cheeks. I think I prefer the second one - slightly deeper scallops.

    Jay Blades Home Fix

Several of the craftspersons on the show have adopted the presenter role and done it far better than Blades IMHO

Dining room wall unit dresser thing

I've been making a few changes since the first set of drawings. Possibly the sections on the right and top give most of the detail and the main drawing is looking very busy if not confusing, One shelf has been removed. I've made the shelf spacing an arithmetic progression with a ratio of around...

We are nothing if not consistent up here

Yesterday started with a bit of a dew first thing but soon warmed in the sun. I sat out in the garden to have lunch! Lots of solar input and the store got up to 99C mainly as I’d prematurely switched over to autumn configuration. Oops! Back to summer settings now having looked at the forecast.

Dining room wall unit dresser thing

Thanks Stephen - that makes sense I'll throw that into the next drawings and check on the typical heights of the pictures

Dining room wall unit dresser thing

Following on from the project referred to here https://www.thewoodhaven2.co.uk/threads/sliding-dovetail-proportions.9972/ I thought it best to expand on the project in this board. I started with a scale drawing of the target location. A completely blank canvas. Permanently open door way to the...

    Travel insurance.

Swmbo and I have an annual travel policy with Nationwide banking for £13 per month plus £65 for letting ourselves become over 70 total £221 pa. It covers worldwide destinations, no high risk activities and voluntarily we have excluded pre-existing health problems. Cover is essentially...

    Sliding Dovetail proportions

I plan to have the rear edge of each shelf held rigidly along its length. I expect the shelves to be no deeper than 8" and possibly to beef up the front edge. I think these two measures will combat sag of what will be lightly loaded shelves. The dead weight of each shelve should be around 4lb...

    Sliding Dovetail proportions

Based on the video I watched, I'm considering using a parallel sided key. Would still be a stopped joint so the end grain of the key is only visible from the back Certainly unorthodox but you should know what to expect of me!! @AndyT And the problem with too many machines is? :ROFLMAO...

    Sliding Dovetail proportions

Just watched this and triggered an idea in my head. I'll post later as visitors are about to turn up and I've had a chance to think/draw it.

    Light Oak?

I suppose it could have a light oak lacquer on cedar? Most people choose furniture on colour rather than the timber used.

    Sliding Dovetail proportions

Thanks for all your suggestions. They are very much appreciated. Some test joints would help me decide on the detail of the design. This is very much at the thinking stage but I will write it up when I get round to cutting wood. Currently, the aftermath of health issues have left me with very...

    Sliding Dovetail proportions

Good thought on the proportions - thanks Tapered ones sound a bit more of a challenge - getting them to jam at just the right position!

    Sliding Dovetail proportions

I did wonder about shelf stiffness. The back will be quite substantial and add stiffness and i could even thicken up the front edge of each shelf. Its only going to have photos and knickknacks on it. Main idea is to break up a large bare wall with something in a similar panelled style to the...

    Sliding Dovetail proportions

If I said I have a project on the drawing board then that would imply great maturity than that which exists partway in my head and the backs of a couple of envelopes. Im considering an item of dining room furniture a bit like the top half of a traditional dresser to be wall hung. Around 8' wide...
