• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Link to BGHM German machinery safety guide PDF

For anyone who might be interested, the whole thing has been translated to English, and the PDF can be found in this thread on the Felder owners forum. I think you may have to join up, but free to do such. https://groups.io/g/felderownersgroup/topic/file_general/109282625 Ah yes indeed Mr...

Beginner still reading & YouTubing my way into it.

Someone uploaded a few Jim Kingshott videos onto the tube recently, quite good watching aswell. and could mention Phil Lowe for another few videos to watch, as well as Tom McLaughlin for a transatlantic audience. Quite a few more specialised videos from others too that most could recommend...

How long to cut a rebate (unpowered)?

Is that a skewed blade on the Veritas plane Derek, and it that why you're using it o'er your own one... or is it that the tote is just more comfortable? Cheers All the best Tom

A wheely good workbench solution, Version 2, Now we're rolling!

Hi again folks, I guess that's just the misery what's likely apparent in all my pictures... "Tis hopefully only a temporary thing. 😅 Sorry, not got a video for ye yet, as I've been painting lots of things in the meanwhile, and much like near everything else of recent really... without any...

    New to real wworking

Hello and welcome, an interesting subject making beehives, and heard of terms like "National beehives" before, though I've never really looked into it. It would surely be a good way to use up thin short stuff, as I'd bet there's a lot more wood than you'd think in them! All the best Tom

How long to cut a rebate (unpowered)?

I'd think the moving fillister plane would be the quickest/easiest hand tool for the job, if that was what you were asking? All the best Tom

Seven Heirlooms - and one for my great niece, too.

Not used the stuff myself Mike, and unfortunately the OLF has gone offline last week! There was a very prominent member only mentioning he'd try to buy it or recent, as the place was getting very quiet, with the owner seemingly not logging in for a very long time. Older software wasn't updated...

Richard Maguire aka The English Woodworker

Glad to see Richard pop up on my feed again, and a welcome back from me. Should this longer style of presentation of his return be, what might become be the norm... Then I guess it likely might consist of some real time working, hopefully with an adequate amount of close ups of the work where...

A wheely good workbench solution, Version 2, Now we're rolling!

That's quite understandable Mark, as this ain't my first rodeo, so I've likely left loads out, along with changing the terms for components, I can see why my posts have been confusing. Seems a theme at this stage, that all my posting seems to be best read backwards, haha! Indeed a video will be...

A wheely good workbench solution, Version 2, Now we're rolling!

Not much more to do on this, so thought I'd show a little progress. Needed to raise the hinge up some 10mm, to allow for the pins/bolts of the "disengagement levers", (in order to line up with the hinge), and I wanted to have everything flush on the underside of the bench strechers. Whilst I...

    Fantasy Tool Box - sharpening

The hones look decent, good to know there's cheap ones without that grid pattern/large font... as I've got the impression they were giving me the odd nicked edge on occasion. Though whether that's from myself, or larger particles of diamond when being made, I dunno, but it would be interesting...

A wheely good workbench solution, Version 2, Now we're rolling!

Hello again folks, thought I'd post a wee update for ye. Looking again at the... for want of a better word, upper frame section? (I can't use "lever" now) It appeared like strengthening things wouldn't have mattered much, for multiple reasons, Sorry I meant to take photos of this, but I was too...

    Wood Identification

Philippine mahogany AKA red meranti, is what my guess is based on those pictures. Going by long grain pores, (what can be similar to iroko, though not that piece you have)... and colour. If it's softer than iroko, and the colour is as red as this, then that would exclude anything else I've seen...

    Green ash.

Hi Mike, likely you're familiar of this occurrence with holly, should you not, a thread or two from the other place what should be fairly easy to find, using these keywords... green-hue-appearing-on-freshly-ripped-holly, or holly-tree, for example. I'm just asking whether it's possible if...

Aye Ian, 'tis very crusty lookin, though on the flip side, I won't be loosing any sleep if some of these auld gates actually do make it to the scrappy. That might work, as might welding on as much extra material as possible, anywhere/everywhere , since there's no design constraints other than...

A wheely good workbench solution, Version 2, Now we're rolling!

Hello all, thought I might as well give ye an update on things, as it seems I could have hit bit of a snag. Not sure yet, so will have to do some testing now with things partially assembled. Difficult to test otherwise, as too many things were clamped up with prior mock ups. Whether or not this...
