• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

New table saw (UK)….. that is the question

If you're meaning, won't leave a finished surface, then perhaps you should look into carbide tipped blades, seeing as there are some cheaper alternatives popping up here and there nowadays, than from Lenox etc.. seemingly for around the same price as M42 here. Hard to tell which is from the...

    A belt sander revamp?

Hello again. I've since got things cleaned up enough to press on with it. Plenty of adjustment, which should be plenty for two sheets of 3/4" ply, plus accounting for some floor discrepancy. With things partially assembled, I was somewhat able to check how the legs adjusted with some...

If you've been flicking off yer offcuts on a slider....

Aye that's the same deflector as per in the guide. Thanks to Bob Minchin (9fingers) for the induction motor PDF document, I've got the choice. ;) I was assuming a compressed air system hold down clamp, as seen on these type machines would be an available attachment for crosscutting. Not gone...

New table saw (UK)….. that is the question

I'd never spend my money on something with a universal brush screamer motor, as the consumable nature of such, doesn't lend themselves to making proper fixtures, be it mobility wise, infeed & outfeed, well advised being so close to the blade, or any other such jig, which for something cast iron...

If you've been flicking off yer offcuts on a slider....

I did screenshot the hitting of the switch, and mentioned this, but my text disappeared. The blade was coasting to a stop when this incident happened. Makes a good case for seeing how fast my cheapo VFD can stop a 12" blade!. Tom

If you've been flicking off yer offcuts on a slider....

Good spot Andy, I missed that as I presumed nobody would be using such a machine without the riving knife. Truth be told, I was zoned in on the guard, as I've never seen one, (well, not one of those types anyway) "perform" as it were, before. I was under the impression they had no such...

If you've been flicking off yer offcuts on a slider....

Seen this video yesterday, it seems fair warning to those who wish to crosscut with a circular saw. Here's the youtube link I took a sequence of screenshots for those who don't click on youtube's. What way would you make this cut, if you had to do a lot of them, and didn't have a compound...

    A belt sander revamp?

Not quite sure where it's going Chris, perhaps in-between the saws, or possibly an in-feed, but it should hopefully be able to wheel out easily when I need it most. Hopefully things will work out, though very much unsure yet as it's a bit of experimentalisim, and I'd rather get the legs welded...

    A belt sander revamp?

Hello again, been a while since I posted anything on this, but thankfully progressing a wee bit on things. Stripped a previous machine base which I was keeping for this job, and some nice bits for another project. After some procrastination, I figured this size seemed about right... Still...

    Big bandsaw needed

Something for 500 quid might be an old Italian saw, needing new tires/tyres, or addressing of the vulcanized rubber variety, what's hopefully not missing a fence... due to the tire profile making the saw unusable, and put away in a corner to let the paint bubble off. Hopefully the bores are...

    Hacksaw blades

Bahco are the best I've found, though I've been using Electroweld ones (also bimetal) recently, sold singularly at my local, very very good also, and nice not to have to spend well over 20 quid for a pack. Not found the Eclipse which are stocked in the pound shop much good, though I wouldn't be...

How to use files - film

But if you happen to find old ones what might not be so easy to purchase new, then they can be made work if it's the right file for the job, you'll likely be still able to get a second life out of it, provided you can use your weight, and/or favouring the near side, i.e leaning down on the...

    Powering a bandsaw off grid

Seems you are unaware of this document regarding all that. It's the best I've came across. You'll find it under Bob's signature screenshot from above. All the best Tom

    Powering a bandsaw off grid

What about finding a cheap old solid saw, and sticking a lawnmower or diesel engine to it? Kris Harbor's sawmill came to mind, so had a look at his video series. I'd guess there might be some tips there in regards to suitable engines, i.e RPM, pulley size, if not in the video then perhaps info...

Ahh, the penknife, you need a penknife to open! 😀

    Wooden hinge drill set

Some questions for those with the Cosman drill kit, if I may. What sort of pins did you use, as it doesn't seem like the off the shelves metric welding rods would be a nice fit?, Well, not without a good coating of something beforehand perhaps... as I suppose, should a box get damp whilst used...

Two of my favorite knives, excellent at keeping an edge and very inexpensive.

Some fine knives you folks got, seems some are spoilt for choice. Never had use for a multitool, full tang for me please! I think I can make do with just the one for the meanwhile, since it's quite versatile for my usage... That said, not given it too much abuse, though it doesn't seem like...

    Wooden hinge drill set

How about something like finding suitable stock, whats slightly oversize, say from a bolt with a long shoulder, cut a little segment off...or two, and drill out as close to centre as you can. Thereafter, jamming said bit, or perhaps with another slightly larger bit, what's not exceeding the...
