• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

Interesting project Mike I was working for a firm building tiny houses on trailers. A couple of years ago they changed to white rubber for the roofs to help keep them cool. Is that available in the UK?

    Battle of the adjustables...

I have some old bahco which are my favourites, they get used all the time and the medium one comes everywhere in my tool kit. Elora became or was taken over by Gedore, I picked up a set of imperial open/ring spanners from the Bundeswehr surplus. They are amazing quality and well worth the €18...

    Bob '9fingers' Minchin

    Cutting post formed laminate worktops

The joint seal from Howdens is likely to be colourseal, its made by Hilka in a range of different colours. There is a sheet from the manufacturers which match. Good luck with the Howdens worktops, they can be a bit of a lottery. Remember which way up and which way you need to attack the...

    Cutting post formed laminate worktops

I go through in 3 or 4 passes keeping the router guide bush referenced against the 'away' edge of the slot. When it comes to the final pass I go in one pass with the bush referenced towards opposite edge, leaves a nice clean cut. I often use old bits for the first passes as your just hogging...

    Pickaroon - very useful.

A Handsappie as the Germans call them. Really useful for moving logs about, it's a hook on a stick.

    board volume

The two sawmills I use are brilliant, my favourite has heated sheds for the sawn oak. But this place has me over a barrel it does my head in. I've found relationships with suppliers here take a lot of work and getting those Vitamin b introductions, so many places would rather cut off their own...

    board volume

Mike your timber yard sounds more friendly than mine. I try and avoid using them but if I'm stuck for small amounts I have to go as it's not enough for the sagewerks to be bothered with. They are a nightmare and a try and charge for everything. Unfortunately they are the largest round here and...

    Dowelling Machine

I've managed to figure out how to take it apart and have changed the suspect bearings. The manufacturer was really helpful and sent me loads of drawings and instructions how to take it apart. Next job is to check the head is level to the bed. I didn't take any photos of the repair, it's been...

    Dowelling Machine

Fingers crossed Bob, I've hopefully got someone sending me a user and service manual. Without it I don't want to start fiddling because I can't see a simple way to take it apart without having to set it up all over again!

    Dowelling Machine

I have just picked up a Scheer DB12 dowelling machine. It has 3 spindles, one of which has a bit of play and is throwing out the alignment by about .25mm. Has anyone got any experience with stripping it down and having a look what is happening with the spindle? I can't find any information...

    MiniMax FS31 about to purchase

I've got the fs41, I have had 2 of them. I have the manual if you need any information. I think the tables are the same length, just different blade width.

    Options for custom spindle profile

From my experience I would refuse the larch. Tell them to get some proper timber, larch is awful for nice mouldings, it will cost you a lot of time.
