• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Shoe Rack

Have made a bit more progress, M and T's for slat rails into legs are finished and currently doing M and T's for fixing slats to rails. I'm cutting all the tenons on a bandsaw which has speeded things up. Once I figure out where the edge is on the spinning blade the cuts are very accurate. I'm...

    Shoe Rack

Although I live on my own I find myself fed up with all my footwear scattered around the house. So I'm making a shoe rack in the hope it will solve the problem. The timber I'm using is made up of odds and sods of Oak and Utile I have lying around. It will be approx 900mm high, 600mm wide and 350...

    Birds of the World

Cornell University (USA) have just issued an interesting online comprehensive list of data of the world's 10,800+ bird species together with sub-species, distribution, migration etc etc. As a retired world birder (age and bad legs) I shall find this very interesting, particularly in checking up...

Two Gate Leg Tables for Recycling

I bought these two tables yesterday, £25 for the two, for the wood. One I think is Oak and the other has a pinky shade to it, perhaps a West African species. Don't know what I shall make from them but I'll keep you posted. John

    Chest of Drawers

I have finally finished this piece of furniture, much much later than I had forecast. I'm very pleased with the overall carpentry side of the piece but there a few cosmetic things that aren't right. Firstly the height of the top drawers which has been discussed at length. then the colour of the...

    Treatment for drawer runners

What do members recommend for applying to beech runners to aid the drawers sliding? I have some clear Liberon Wax Polish which I thought may be suitable. John

    Ash bed WIP - Finished!

Looking forward to the WIP for your new bed Andy. A few years ago I made myself one not dissimilar to Derek Cohen's design but without the curves. It was a very enjoyable project and didn't take long. Good luck. John

    Bed fixing and adjustment.

+ 1 for this. I made myself a 4' bed a few years ago. The frame is rock solid. John

Progress has been slow this year but attached are a couple of items I made a little while ago. Members of the other place may have seen them already.

    chip breaker problem

I can't get rid of the gap between the blade and chip breaker on my No.4 plane. My Nos. 3, 5 and 6 are perfect. I've tried tapping and grinding it but with no luck - maybe it's a duffer.. I mainly use my No.5 so can manage without the 4 but it would be nice to get it working again properly...

    Chest of Drawers

I started this project well over a year ago but it has been delayed due to one thing and another. I'm now well on with the drawers so should be finished by Christmas (ha ha). One fundamental error - I should have made the top drawers slightly narrower than the others John

    New Member

I joined The Woodhaven about a week ago. Previously I was a contributor to UKW (john15) until about 9 months ago. I am a hobbyist woodworker, working mainly with handtools in a small workshop and make pieces of furniture for myself to a reasonable(?) standard. I am looking forward to...
