• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Home made try square

Thanks Steve - as Andy says, interesting article, but no, wasn't S.C.. I'm 125 miles from home for a week, so can't go through my pile of "useful things" to find out who flagged it up to me. I think it was an English box maker, specialising in tiny dovetailed boxes. Who? Let you know in 8 days.

    B17 flyover

Gawd. I thought I knew my post-war aircraft, but this is a conundrum, Rob. Me no, no, senõr.

    Home made try square

Beg to differ, Rob. I have taken a shaving (fingernail) off a standard British square with a re-purposed broken chisel, beveled one side. The workaround (remember them you programmers?) was to lift the chisel on its flat side on a stone and create the tiniest of microbevels. Not my idea, but an...

    B17 flyover

Ah. Apologies Al. I posted my T.S./Wilt in reply to Roger's "organ" post above; unaware there had been a post in between, as I had AJBT on "ignore". A second Forumite contacted me, because, as said before, 'ignored' posts can lead to disjunctions. Exactly what happened here, so I unignored, read...

    Henry Wilt, where are you?

    B17 flyover

Ditto for Shackletons, Andy; the sound just goes through you. Contra-rotating props, four engines, each one the size of a small car....we lived under the flight path for Ballykelly and used to lose T.V. reception as each one passed overhead at about 200ft up.

    OOPs and some.

I commute Alnwick to Kendal fairly regularly and picked up three points recently on that awful A69 single carriageway (with passing lanes to get around H.G.V.'s) between Haltwhistle and Hexham. One of those "average speed" johnnies. Result? Doing the course to avoid the points, but...not wanting...

    Biscuits

Sorry for coming back late to all this. Post 12, the photo? You needed to cut the biscuit in half down the length to see comparative profiles. The blade only cuts one side of the joint at a time. Post 15. The wee beast appears identical to mine! Post 18, that's what I get. There is a smidgen of...

Good man. Feckwits like that need serious therapy. Physical.therapy.

    Field fire....

Yes, Frank. The wholly artificial practice of "maintaining a grouse moor" is, to some extent, a more controlled, less dangerous, situation than the out-of-control fires across two continents recently. But, and it is a massive "but", the concept behind it is, as I said, wholly artificial and...

Just a thought: do you mean "stubble"?

    Field fire....

That may have been the case with you. Our rich alluvial, reclaimed, soil ploughed easily, followed by harrowing. I grew up driving various Masseys and even a wee grey T.V.O. Fergy. Incidentally, I saw a seed fiddle being used as late as 1987/1990,just outside Rostrevor. Sounds like fine clay...

    Field fire....

When I'm lived in north Ulster, you could look across Lough Foyle and see a sizeable part of the Innishowen Penninsula wreathed in smoke as the heather (and gorse) was "burned back - to enrich de land". Ecological nonsense. Carbon pollution, wildlife incineration and habitat destruction in the...

A week in the Pacific Northwest (USA). Woodworking related content

How can one human being accomplish all that AND paying work in one lifetime? Incredible. Must be an utter joy to create in there.

Mike builds a teardrop (hatch detail)

Agreed. Look at Pennine trailer tents Mike. They have a gas port in the side of the body. I made up a 15' flexible gas pipe for mine, plug in/plug out to the main gas line via the port. Gas barbeque, lava rocks not charcoal, with a screw in tap ending the flexible hose, straight into the BBQ. It...
