• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Saw blades

Have you tried CMT blades, ETV? I use them with my Makita tracksaw, and I've had very good results. https://www.scosarg.com/cmt-291-crosscut-sawblade-d-165-b-2-2-d-20-z-24 https://www.scosarg.com/cmt-292-fine-sawblade-d-165-b-2-2-d-20-z-56

    Saw blades

I think setting it so that the bottom of the gullet is around the height of the workpiece is a pretty good rule for most cuts. You also have to take into account that some of it is dependant on what you're cutting, for example when cutting two-face veneered/laminate panels without a scoring...

Plane iron getting "wrecked" when shooting: what can it be?

Most likely it’s a piece of staple left over from the timber supplier as they staple on pieces of paper to designate packs to certain buyers on the yard and lorries. If a pack gets rejected they tear off the paper and staple a new one on to send it elsewhere until someone accepts it and...

Plane iron getting "wrecked" when shooting: what can it be?

You might benefit from a slightly steeper angle on your plane iron, so that you have a higher pitch angle at the cutting edge once inserted in the plane. This will make the edge more durable but also make the plane lean more towards a scraping action rather than a shearing action, which works...

    SCM T110 spindle moulder shaft

Yes, as @duke says I believe the SCM shafts are hardened and ground so probably a bit more tricky to turn to 30mm than softer shafts from other machines. Shame it isn't 30mm, I know someone who's after one.

A Guide to Circular Saw Blades

I'll have to get around to updating the thread and putting the images on the forum rather than hosting them third-party. Considering Tewkesbury Saw went out of business over a year ago, it might be worth giving it a good look through the thread as well to bring everything up-to-date.

    Imgur Blocking UK Users

Whilst I understand that the data is a separate issue, Isn't "The investigation relates to how MediaLab’s Imgur social media platform uses children’s information and its approach to age assurance." essentially the same issue that's brought about by the OSA? Ensuring that users are of an...

    Lock Mitre

I've used a lockmitre spindle moulder cutter a lot over the years for corner covers, beam covers, etc... Not sure I would use it for box making, whilst the joint will be relatively strong once the glue has set, the actual joint itself could be prone to just shearing across the tongue that's...

    Timber fairy causes enquiry

Nice score, quite a usable bench, but that Record 35 is a real gem. They were made from Cast Steel throughout and thus are practically unbreakable. A general-purpose blade will cut the oak, but if you're ripping it down I would really recommend a dedicated ripping blade as the sections look...

    Imgur Blocking UK Users

But it is an effectively useless piece of legislation which affects more than it solves, god knows how much it has cost to implement, and how much it has damaged the online economy. Want to look at X-rated stuff? Just look it up on Google and click on images; it all shows up because Google is...

Houston - we have a problem

You would be surprised at how poor the craftsmanship often is when it comes to those who work on listed buildings.

    No big surprise

This has happened time and time again, there should be better protections in place and ways to prosecute people that do this, some of whom are repeat offenders. Solar installers working under grants who offer guarantees for 10+ years and then go bust after fitting so they don't have to honour...

Super glue and activator packs withdrawn at Toolstation

If it hasn't been opened it might be OK, but I've had bottles that have been opened that have gone very thick to the point of being unusable in the past. That said, the glue these days tends to last much longer than the bottles themselves which get destroyed when the cap inevitably glues itself...

    Wood Identification Help

Having seen the logs now I concur with the others that it looks more like a Leylandii or similar. The purple hues and small pippy knots were giving me serious Lilac vibes! That said, I’ve only ever worked with one Lilac which I cut down in the garden and turned many years ago.

Yes, I would still say Lilac.

    Imgur Blocking UK Users

Possibly the European version of the Online Safety Act isn’t quite as overzealous as the British version. With the British Government threatening to fine and sanction companies that do not comply with the OSA it’s not surprising that the easiest solution is to just not service the U.K. anymore.

    Imgur Blocking UK Users

This isn't really an issue that can be sorted by the forum itself, but more to let people know. It appears that it's not possible to view Imgur photos from the UK anymore, unless it's a temporary problem, but more than likely it's happened as a result of the new Online Safety Act and the UK...

Clarke Bandsaw CBS12WV pinion identification please

I don't have any experience of the machine but I wouldn't be surprised that it's just a plastic roller. I would've thought any reasonably hard material would work for a belt tensioner roller, I would be tempted to even try a hardwood in a pinch.

It's hard to see from the photos, but it reminds me more of Lilac than Yew.

    Broken metal throttle lever

My big concern would be the repair failing as you're trundling down the road, an unexpected breakage where your hand could come off the handlebars during a turn could end pretty badly. Do you have photos of the break?
