• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Table Saw purchase

Many years ago Charnwood made very good industrial machines, a friend has a huge old Charnwood panel saw which I was using last week, it’s a real beast with around a 3m long sliding table So they certainly have the know how how to make quality machines that last perhaps they are returning to a...

Best way to store the canoe on the rear cabin wall?

With option 2 there’s far more change of leaves etc or snow building up between the canoe & cabin wall which would lead to water damage to the building. Personally there’s very little I’d hang on a wooden building for the reasons above but if it has to hang there I’d go with option 1 but use...

    Peanut oil

Isn’t peanut oil non drying? Surely it will just remain sticky on the woods surface as it won’t cure.

    What Is Your Morning Routine

Don’t really have a routine as no two days are alike other than a strong black coffee & taking my tablets as soon as I’m in the kitchen

    Table Saw purchase

I’ve seen that hammer have bought out a budget range which could be worth a look, personally I much prefer a saw with a sliding table so went for the hammer B3 basic, it only has a small sliding table but makes the saw so versatile.

Carrying on with the wood store I wanted a bench in there on which I could break down timber & also do jobs I don’t want to do on the shop bench. Around 5 years ago I cut out this MFT top with a mate on his CNC. The plans I had for it changed so it’s been stored ever since so Tuesday I began...

Help with Kingsway Group continuous hinge swing door system please

Looking at images online your photos Andy don’t look like the Kingsway anti-ligature design a search bought up. I couldn’t get a close up but I’d have expected a brand name etched on those big plates, perhaps it’s a Chinese copy, in which case runaway ;)

    Look after yourselves chaps!!

My condolences Mark, of everything I’ve dealt with in my life coming to terms with friends who have taken their own lives has been one of the hardest things, the old adage that it’s the ones you least expect is so true.

No most of this has always been intended for my personal use, almost all of timber I use for work is kiln dried from the timber merchant.

Shorter pieces tend to end up on the shelves in the workshop Ian, there are some chunky short pieces of Ash on the rack that need moving elsewhere, I used to turn sofa legs from them for a furniture maker who’s pieces got shipped to America but that work dried up when Trump took office.

I’m hoping not Scott, the Chestnut is for gates that I hope to make this winter along with making a start on a bedroom suite from a lot of the Ash that’s on the rack so by spring I’m hoping to have freed up a fair bit of space & then I’ll bring another load over.

I’ve been collecting a while, I used to write the date on timber as I got it Andy & the earliest date I found as I was clearing out was 2007 thought this was my second lorry body so the next lot will be older, my wife always says I have a problem, but to me it seems a nice problem to have :)

All the air dried timber I have has been stored in two...
