• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Painting soffits

I think I’m right that the mould can’t get through or survive on a good unbroken layer of oil based paint, - the stuff we painted all woodwork with 20 years ago, also needs a semi porous damp environment. What sort of paint is barn paint?

    Milwaukee mini spirit level 100mm

Shame the base is non magnetic though, it can be really handy sometimes. I can see you there Roger turning them all round, probably what I would have done too lol.

Well, that day didn't go to plan.

Well, that day didn't go to plan.

Gorgeous, if it’s true about the size of feet she’s not going to be small. Two years to train a dog, but very worthwhile. Good news about getting the boot off Mike.

Bees like the Blue False Indigo.

Very tranquil Scott, also a huge improvement on the wet and snowy pics of a few weeks ago.

    Nice bit of joinery

That’s some lovely rustic work, and that central twisted piece really is something, I’m getting the impression that it’s the wood itself that’s twisted. But the Sewer downpipe looks to have an open end? Must have come around the corner at some time.

Fixing a Chipped Japanese Chisel Blade

Never had the need for a jap chisel but often wondered what happens when you sharpen back to the ura, do you have to reduce the thickness of the chisel to bottom depth of the ura?

Paul Sellers’ traveling joiner’s tool chest

And also that had stops built into the brass casting that only allows the handle to reach horizontal, much nicer to use. Campaign furniture, now there’s a thing, I personally haven’t made any for well over a Century lol. 😂

A small project with a difficult joint

Yes Sycamore is normally a lovely wood to deal with, hard like Maple, I used to use it for the insides of drawers till I couldn’t easily obtain it anymore. Gives a lovely crisp edge as you’ve shown Dr Al.

Mike builds a teardrop (coopered shelf unit, door surrounds)

That’s really cool Mike. A lot of work but totally worthwhile.

A small project with a difficult joint

Yes more than a bit carroty. Shame it does that to the timber as I have started to quite like the look of it.

    What I have fixed today

More likely to be a type of mould, seen sometimes in refrigeration units and often a pink colour. It will need to be killed off or it will come back - -sorry. Don’t know the cure, bleach?

    Wood suitable for window shutters.

Yes pls, I would caution against the piano hinge, the only ones I’ve ever seen are only brassed and will rust outdoors. Ymmd.
