• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Church Notice Board

@Weekend_Woodworker, took some piccys of our Parish Councils notice board for reference (scrubbed out some info) if it helps.

    Church Notice Board

Would, dividing the notice board in to 3 sections, (or even 4) with a double door, and a lock, for the Church notices, the other, a single door section, could be used for general public notices/flyers, but without a lock, sizing the sections to coordinate with A4 sheet dimensions, be an option...

    Veneered wall art

A bit of thread drift, but I found these two veneer/marquetry pieces from the Wood Awards website: https://www.woodawards.com/portfolio/the-ocean-screen/ https://www.woodawards.com/portfolio/a-drop-in-time/

    Veneered wall art

Have to say @Stuart that is a brilliant piece of work, I for one would be interested in how its made.

    Veneered wall art

I know nothing about making veneered pieces such as this, but I do veneer large panels as in door blanks etc, so in order to do that I have a big 2600mm x 1350mm bag and a vacuum pump, as in this lot: https://www.airpress.co.uk/237-professional-airpress.html My point is, if it’s a problem for...

    Lathe tools

In truth I’m no woodturner, I bought my first lathe in the late 1990’s it’s a Nutool jobby, still got it, at the same time I also picked a set of 5 Record turning tools, which IIRC cost more than the lathe, but the lathe wasn’t much use without them… at the time I was restoring furniture and one...

Never Have Work Done when you are Not Home

@PAC1 that’s a bit like the OF&H chandelier tale. Other than that, I absolutely agree with Doug, apart from the what’s app bit:cool: when I was in full flow, we would encourage customers to B off for a few weeks so we could switch of and disconnect everything, and then rip everything out. What...

    Free chairs

Update, I met up with the lady who owned the chairs, they have 4 more, these 2 were ditched as the casters were broken, I suggested these 2 could be repaired and then kept as a set of 6, “were not at all practical” she said, and was happy to let them go, even though I offered to fix them. She...

    Free chairs

Out with the dog this am, and saw these sat outside the big house at the end of our street, not to our taste but could possibly go into the antiques shop our friends runs, the seats needs recovering, but the OTH used to do upholstery, if I can persuade her to take it on, the springs and webbing...

Making a Rob Cosman kerf extender

I came across one of these a few years ago when I visited Classic Hand tools, I was starting on a project to make a few drawers for an Oak storage case, but being frugal decided to make my own version from a gentleman’s saw I had knocking about, works really well, maybe not as refined as Mr...

    Big problems ebonising.

That’s a result @Mike G Bit of a thread drift, an update on my old wire wool and vinegar solution: Didn’t look very promising in the jar (little plug for my friend’s cider business down your way in Suffolk) and it didn’t disappoint: So, it’s gone in the bin. I then put into practice an...

    Big problems ebonising.

One little tip, I think this is classed as a spirit dye; Its rubbish, I tried it to black the chess pieces I’ve been making, on Oak, Sycamore and Sapele, I even drowned the pieces for a few days but it just gave them a washed-out finish, I’m now leaning towards using black, car spray paint...

    Big problems ebonising.

Not much use in the current situation, but I wonder if it was the age of your brew, I have some that’s is quite a few years old now, I’ll give it a try tomorrow and see if the results are similar. But can you not add black pigment to the epoxy, I’ve seen demonstrations on the tube, with resin...

Cased frame sliding sashes with hand tools

I have a selection of CAD drawings for Sash windows that I plagiarised to use for my own purposes, attached is a PDF of one, which was for use on a listed and conservation project, keeping with single glazing but incorporating modern draft seals, it’s been a long time since I worked on this one...
