• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. Can anyone point me to good block calculator? I've got a 22m long retaining wall to price up. 1m high with the blocks laid flat on their side in order to give the strength to hold back the veggie plot.

Had a local handyman come and price it up but it seems a bit steep, but then I've been out of the trade for 14 years so I could be in dreamland.
 
I've used this one before. Don't know if it's any more or less accurate than any others so just used as a guide really.

EDIT : Sorry, just realised it's not an auto calculator, I was just working it out myself from the ratio's it gives.

Seems like a few out there if you google 'brick calculator', some allow custom brick sizes. Just give a couple a go and see if the numbers are similar.
 
Fairly easy to work out to be honest. Use 10mm on each dimension for bricks (only once per brick!) and 15-20mm for blocks.
Calculate the face area for a brick/block and its mortar for the laying pattern you propose and divide into the wall area 22 sqm in your case, to get the number of blocks.

Ive had a look at the online ones which are great they give you an idea of how much sand cement etc. as well as number of blocks but i want to build the wall with the blocks flat on their face to create a thicker wall since it will be a retaining wall and i can't find one that covers doing this.

I will continue to google, or take my shoes off and try and do some maths! Thanks for the responses.
