• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I visited a friend whose son has just embarked on a joiner apprenticeship.
As a sideline he has bought a cnc router table to make stuff at home.
I guess the work area is about 4’x4’ and the router looks like it takes an 8mm bit, certainly not half inch.
I gently advised him to ensure he took very shallow cuts but otherwise didn’t make too many comments as he was clearly excited about it.

Does anyone here have one? And what do you use it for?

My young friend is hoping to develop a sideline in bespoke items.
 
They are excellent for engraving text Jim, obviously you need the right cutter but I did some last week for an up coming project & i’m really pleased with the outcome.

3 years ago I visited Oryx (formally of this parish when WH1) down in Kent he was kind enough to demonstrate his CNC & produced this plaque in minutes.

Checkout my signature on the headstock on my avatar. A 0.6mm end mill cutter first milled that out of 1mm mother of pearl at 0.1mm passes, then using the same cutter it cut the pocket out of the headstock.

I haven't yet explored the text Vee carving abilities through my software, but YT videos show how text engraving/carving can be done.
