• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have just got back from a couple of weeks in the Philippines and India with work which included being away for my birthday. Before I went one of my daughters asked what she could get me and I said a Bahco combi square.

She asked my wife where to get it from and she suggested Classic Hand Tools … look what was waiting when I got home last night.

It really is a thing of beauty. I’d have been grateful for a Bahco and she did get her siblings to join her so it’s a joint gift but daughters are wonderful!

Apparently CHT were very helpful in pointing her to where she could get a Bahco and were upfront about the price differential - full marks to whoever she spoke with.

The pressure is now on to get the equivalent improvement in accuracy in my woodworking …
 
Great present. I have that exact set, plus the small square (very useful). Dead on accurate and solid as a rock.

I had an amazingly cheap set of these (rolson I believe) , and in a very short time they ended up in the bin.
Its well known I'm not a hand tool person, but I could do with an accurate marking out set. 8-)

The box lid is a clue....It has Starrett printed on it about a hundred times....

Top make (along with M&W).

Very nice, I wish some one would surprise me like that.

The bacho are accurate but not very well finished.

When I see a thread of this nature I wonder how many members look up Classic Hand Tools like I have done and inspect the tool in question.
If they did was a purchase made, I didn't.

Having investigated the name, I cant justify that cost for my minimal use and budget, but is there an in between in terms of quality?
Something a step or two above market stall trash for about a £100 (hopefully less)
 
It's undoubtedly way above the accuracy and quality that my woodworking aspires to or indeed that is probably needed when working with wood. However, receiving it as a surprise (I'm quite difficult to buy presents for apparently!) made my day/week/month/year and made me smile each time I used it yesterday. I doubt I will use the centre finder or protractor very often.

@sunnybob - the Bahco one is more than adequate imho. I had one but somehow mislaid it when my son left home :eusa-think: :eusa-think:

Mine came today, they really are wonderfully finished, if a had a niggle, it would be that it would be nice if the blade was attached in the box so you dont have to keep disassembling it if you wanted to keep it shiny and protected. that being said i guess it makes sense if you're a use of all the attachments.
 
Congratulations. A beautiful piece of kit.
I have the 150mm and 300mm squares only - very accurate and easy to use.

Ideally i would have liked just the 300mm combi on its own but they dont appear to be the easiest things to find as everyone sells these sets. id quite like the 150mm double square to compliment as my bahco 150mm combi is a bit crunchy. excellent kit though as youd expect from Starrett
 
I use a couple of their adjustable squares (150 and 100mm) and very good they are too; I use a much older R&C combination square for rougher marking out - Rob
