That's a fascinating article. I suppose that the bench is the ultimate accessory for the saw ... I don't think I'll be building one, though.

Fascinating, can’t imagine pulling a plane towards me all the time. My old bones certainly wouldn’t allow me to do this., I suppose it’s what you get used to really, thanks for sharing, part two – using the bench is probably more interesting in my opinion. Ian

Mike Huntley, the ex editor of F&C is big into Japanese planes, saws and chisels. He's one of the few people in the UK that can sharpen a Japanese saw and I suspect there probably aren't many. I've used one or two of his planes in his 'shop a while back and it's not that difficult, but it does require a different 'muscle set' - Rob

Edit - Mike mentioned to me that the Japanese think it weird in the extreme that we need to push our planes to make shavings! :lol:
