Festool ts55 blades

I don’t have a spare blade for mine so what do you recommend?
On Amazon I can get 4 Saxton blades for £32.99 or 3 Trend £48.99. The saxton seem to cheap to me but they all have different amounts of teeth a the Trend are all 48 tooth.

What should I do I don’t use it much at the moment but that will change when I get my new workshop built.

I have used sawblades from CMT for my Felder and Festool saws and have been quite satisfied with them. You can order them direct in Italy at https://mobiltecnica.it/ for a lower price than buying them through amazon or the likes. Delivery has always been quick and reasonably priced. But I am on the mainland, not sure if that applies to the UK too.

Not willing to shell out for the pukka Festool blade I bought a Trend one for my TS55. It’s okay, not as good as the genuine article, but for occasional use such as I put it to it’s fine.

Festool are definitely the best I have tried. I have got through several blades on this kitchen project, Festool, Trend, Saxton.
The Saxton one was very fine indeed and I thought it would zip through. But when I tried to install it the machine made a dreadful noise. I discovered that the plate of the blade was too thin for the saw to clamp onto, so I had to mackle up a fibre washer to make up the difference. Then all was good, for a while. But the teeth are too close toether to get my diamond file into for sharpening, so, sadly, it is effectively disposable.
There is another blade I do rate, but I can't remember the brand. I'll have a look when I go into the workshop this afternoon.

I need to buy some more blades for mine. I think I shall grit my teeth and spring for the Festools.

Take a look at Walker blades, I use these in my table saw, mitre saw and have one for my Makita tracksaw. You only have a 48 tooth version in the 160 / 165 diameter blades though compared to say Makita blades where they do a 60 tooth.

Just watch for the thickness of the blades as they have got thinner over the years.

I got some blades from Saxton for my 20 year old TS55 and thought they were rubbish until I realised they are about the same thickness as the riving knife, the Festool blades used to be 2.2-2.5mm but on their latest saw they are down to 1.6mm.

It's worth getting one or two blades with a different number of teeth so you can use the right blade for the job, it does make a big difference.

Changing blade manufacturers could require resetting the sacrificial strip on the guide rail if the plate thickness and/or kerf width is different. If I had not received a great deal on my TS55 and TS75 blades, I would not hesitate to use a non-Festool brand. I use a Forrest Chopmaster 90T blade in my KS120.

The majority of the blades I use in my Festool tracksaw's are from Festool themselves. I do find them to give a cleaner cut and keep their sharpness longer than other more budget oriented blades. A couple of years ago, I tried a couple of Saxon blades for example......Okayish on ply and MDF, but dreadful on pre finished materials such as MFC or MFMDF......

Having said, I have been trying a few blades from this company on my last couple of jobs and they are a pretty close second to the Festool blades, both in their quality of cut and in longevity.

I have ordered a genuine Festool blade so I don’t have to replace the splinter strip, thanks for the advice.

Like HdV n my second choice arfter Festool would be CMT , my last 5 or 6 blades have come from the linked Italy company which give an excellent service.
What ever you go with make sure you get the same width blade as the riving knife .

Be careful when you buy your blades. The F version of the TS55 uses the thinner blades, just like Doug 71 wrote. Those thinner blades won't fit on the older TS55 track saws (to thin to get a proper grip on).

Also beware that your riving knife has to be a bit thinner than the kerf made by the teeth on the blade. But it must not be thinner than the body of the saw blade. Otherwise you''ll risk kick back.
