• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Spill plane wanted

Thank you chaps! Sorry I've been away so long. Been an odd couple of years but I've finally managed to sell my house and I'm just waiting on a boat survey. Once I can get my hand tools out of storage I hope to become a more frequent visitor on here again. I've got my back brain ticking away on...

    Spill plane wanted

Hi all, been a while! Does anyone have a working or restorable spill plane gathering dust? Its for using not collecting so condition is less important than function. Cheers,

Eclipse 20T hacksaw retaining bolt size?

Like a bus, nothing for ages then turn up all at once. I lent my hacksaw to someone and it came back missing the top handle nut that allows you to vary the blade size. Does anyone know the size, Tpi, a link to a replacement? I don't mind buying one just can't face trawling through websites to...

    Wood pricing advice please!

Hello chaps. I'm continuing my shed clearance and would like some advice on pricing please. I have a small stock of yew, English walnut and some tropical hardwood. The latter was a shed find that someone gifted me and I have no idea on pricing it. I'll have to share pics of the latter later on...

New Men's Shed in Broxbourne, Herts.

Alright chaps. Been away for a while due to extenuating circumstances that some of you might be aware of. To cut a long story short I'm losing my beloved shed I've sold most of my machines but still have a fair amount of handtools and my wood etc tucked away. . If all goes to plan I'll be...

I wonder if anyone wants to make me a pestle and mortar?

As an update, thank you and post mortem to this thread, the very nice Greg Mcateer (contrary to popular belief there is only one) volunteered to make this for me and I couldn't be happier. Woodworkers are good sorts generally no? :D I'm dead happy with the results. Exactly what I wanted so...

I wonder if anyone wants to make me a pestle and mortar?

Sorry chaps, I've missed a couple of replies and there's Been A Development. Thanks for looking Andy. Actually I dug the bowls ball out but I think it's too small anyway. And also, it's L.V. and maybe deserving of a more fitting end. That's interesting thank you. I have never used a mortar...

I wonder if anyone wants to make me a pestle and mortar?

I have a marble pestle and mortar. I use it all the time. Every time I use it I curse one part for being too small and the other part for being too short. For some reason I have grown used to accepting it's shortcomings and bowed my head while it laughs derisively in my face. For some other...

No Money in My Pocket. WH2 Book Pass around.

A while back I bought a book from a UKw member as an afterthought. It's called 'No Money In My Pocket' and is the autobiography of cabinetmaker David H Coleman. I am painfully shy of knowledge but really enjoyed the read. Very much 'of a time', but covers his apprenticeship, hide glues and...

Who wants to abseil for a living?!?

Re- qualified as a level 3 rope access tech today. (It's not my first rodeo, I have to go every three years). I thought some might be interested in the tick sheet for rescue and rigging techniques you need to do. This is just one of the rescues you need to nail. I thought some...

    Cricket bats

Never been a fan of cricket personally although I am sure it is my loss. That boat just sailed in a different shipping lane to mine. I have, as an outsider, on occasion, envied a mate who enjoyed cricket though. Not sure why really. However, I have been to Lords many times and I've seen it from...

    Bar Clamps

Hiya Al, looks like an interesting project. I use 4mm box section with cramp heads (paramo and record ones are far better finished than the new ones by Rutlands etc) although I believe they were originally designed to be used with wooden bars. (I think?) The only reason I post this is that...

Bike tyre sizes.... Try to stay awake at the back...

Just a follow up post to say thanks for the advice all. I couldn't work out for a while why I couldn't pump up the tyres. Presta valves are new to me. Searched online. Got quite irritated at one point. Went out for a ride came back and started from scratch. Both new Isla innertubes had...

    Mysterious tracks

Hedgehogs eh? That's interesting. We get similar tracks, not in the garden thankfully but in the local carpark. I'd often wondered what animal made them.
