• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

The Bas…..s got me 11 times

When I was about seven, nearly 70 years ago, I was in the field next to our house talking to my mother over the fence. Unbeknown to me I was standing on a wasps nest and they didn't like it. After my mother had retrieved me and washed all the wasps out of my hair, getting stung herself in the...

The Benefits Of A Hobby After Retirement

Many years ago my parents ran an old peoples nursing home and I lived there with them for a few years. I saw many mentally and physically fit people come into the home for a variety of reasons. Without exception they had no outside interests or hobbies and despite the best efforts of my parents...

    Banking Apps

I also agree with the issues around the push for an app for everything. There are so many opportunities for things to go wrong with mobile phones and the interweb with apparently no manual alternative process. I would like to see the business continuity plans, they must be good for laugh. My...

    Banking Apps

I must admit that I find banking apps very useful especially in the absence of any bank branches. How ever, and sorry about the long post: Last night I thought I would quickly pay my barclaycard bill in full to avoid interest, as I spent a lot last month. Log onto the app and go to Barclaycards...

    Lost! Now found.

I have one , possibly two :(, of their of their Advent rules with metric one side and imperial the other. The metric side is mm along the top and 1/2 mm along the bottom. I must admit that despite my glasses I cannot read a ruler to 1/2 mm or 1/32 inch. While doing a favour for a metricated...

Have a look at https://www.thetapestore.co.uk they have a wide variety of steel rules as well as lots of other measuring stuff. I speak as a satisfied customer due to my inability to find anything.

    Lost! Now found.

Just accept that you are not going to find it until you have bought another one. Then it will be in the most obvious place you have searched many times. I have worked on that principal for years and it has saved me an enormous amount of time. The only downside is that next time you can't find it...

    Tack remover

I have a version of the Nail puller with wide claw mentioned by Pedder. It is excellent. I have no idea where mine came from but I found it advisable to wear gloves when using it, those corners are sharp.

    Keeping out water?

The stable doors I had made many years ago had a rebate on the bottom rail of each half door with a slope on it to the outside with a corresponding slope on the bottom of the T&G so that water ran off the slope. It didn't stop the T&G rotting from the inside of the top doors which were usually...

Don't you just love how insurance companies wriggle out?

I had a blocked drain, a drain survey identified roots in the pipe adjacent to a large tree on the boundary of my land and where the pipes start to go deep to connect to the main sewer in the field. The fix was to clear the pipe with some sort of device on the ed of the rods and then line the...

    Glasses - what's your view?

While I would like to use my local optician they are too expensive. Last time I went there it was over £600 for a relatively cheap frame and bifocal lenses. Last time I went to SS instead and it was less than £300 for two pairs of bifocals. I have looked at buying online as I can do the...

    Simple door

I can sympathise re the stairs. My daughters house is similar. She ordered a very thick king size mattress without considering how it was going to go up the stairs. Her partner has a bad back and there was no room for three people so with lots of ratchet straps to bend the mattress, me pulling...

    Old farts driving licence renewal

I didn't get as far as having the option to use passport photo this time, I did last time I renewed it no issues. This appears to be an effort to force everyone to get a new gov logon. I tried to reverse the option I changed, it has now disappeared! Google had run an update on the phone this...
