• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I think doll's houses are great, and yours is superb.

Good to see you back at it. We only have one iron and I often have to smuggle it into my workshop...

Hanging a door. Some finer points

I've got a door which doesn't open fully because it hits the architrave. This has inspired me to have a look at how it's hung. Thanks!

    Possible New Project - Trophy

I went for the scallops, but made them a bit more 'architectural' (is that the right word) than the more 'organic' ones I did on the jewellery box. It made it a bit harder to make them because I couldn't just take through cuts with a spokeshave, but I think it suits the style of the trophy...

    Wedged M&Ts

Sorry, late reply to this: 1. I try to go as close to all the way as possible but leave 1 or 2 mm square. 2. I've done both but was taught at Edward Barnsley to angle the cuts. I go to about 1 or 2mm from the edge of the tenon. 3. If the kerf in the tenon is angled as in 2 above, you don't...

    Possible New Project - Trophy

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Much appreciated. I'll probably go with the scalloped underside. I think it's a bit neater (and easier to do!).

    Possible New Project - Trophy

I'm making the base for the trophy and have got this far: The sides are mitred and dominoed and the lid is a veneered and rebated panel which fits in slots in the sides. There's a 1mm bog oak inlay which hides the joint between the top and the sides. I'm trying to decide whether to add...

    Wagatabon

I really like that. One of the apprentice pieces at Edward Barnsley is a carved coin tray. You can do it how you like, but most leave a scalloped finish straight off the gouge. Here's one pictured on their website:

Very clever. Too clever for me!

    Possible New Project - Trophy

Sorry, I haven't done a WIP on this but I have completed the top, glass section: The top (horizontal) part is just mitred together although I did epoxy the glass (just in the corners and centres) to act as a kind of internal spline to add strength. The base is big enough for a small domino...

    Bedside Table

Lovely project to undertake. Your design looks good to me. You could perhaps make the legs a little more delicate?

So it is Spring now, for me it's still Winter

Starting to see lots of chicks around. I found this little one on my window sill last week!
