• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Spindle Moulder Fence material

I do the same as Rodger, only my fixing is to a tee piece that slots in the fence. I make a new sacrificial fence for the job, all heights, depths, speeds and any notes are wrote on the fence so next time I set up its super fast and repeatable.

    Best Tape Measure

For general purpose measurements I use metal case 5 m Stanley power lock, the ones with 3 rivets in the tape end, tried others but they don't seem to last. For bigger measurements and measurement between two adjacent surfaces I now use a leica disto. For rod work it's mainly steel rule, most...

    CAD system for woodworking

I can't recommend a system as a I'm a pencil drawing and then opticutter for sheet layouts. But if you go to the Felder owners group there's a guy there called David Best and I believe he has gone deep into this subject.

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

Mike, not a fan of Gaudi. I find his style disturbing, similar to the artist Edvard Munch. Guess we’re all different, it’s what makes this world interesting

    Saw blades

If the piece your cutting has a small off cut be very careful, especially if you have the blade low and extraction on, the teeth can pick up the off cut and turn it into a bullet. I don’t generally have the blade at full height unless doing lots of ripping. For cleaning I use a special blade...

    Replace saw blade or renew

Ripping timber you need less teeth. More teeth equals less clearance and a build up of heat

    Replace saw blade or renew

Do the teeth have plenty of carbide? If so I would send it off for sharpening. I generally have 2 or 3 of the same blade so I have a spare when the blade is out for sharpening. I find CMT blade economical and decent quality. Somewhere on here I remember Dan did a excellent write up saw blades.

    Lock Mitre

I used a router spindle in the spindle moulder, but a router table would definitely work. I don’t think it would be possible freehand.

    Lock Mitre

I’ve used it a few times, normally clients want dovetails so not much experience with it. I remember its a little fussy to set up, but quick when it’s set up.
