• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Small project

I had not expected to make anything in my small workshop until it was finished but when I was asked to help someone convert an antique small chest of drawers to hold fountain pens. I am by no means an expert sometimes I wonder if I am actually proficient but there you go. In posting this I am...

The Festool road show is coming to my local Axminster store on Friday has anyone been to one. Is it worth going or is it a waste of time.

    Pen trays

I sometimes make boxes for pens or adapt existing boxes for pen storage. I have tried a number of ways to make pen trays but have not found an ideal way of making them. I currently use dowels stuck to card like this. IMG_6333 by my0771, on Flickr IMG_6374_1 by my0771, on Flickr I have also...

    First work bench

I hope it is ok to start a new thread I did not want the workbenches to get lost in the build thread. As I now have the shell of a workshop and need to fit it with work benches. I want to use the underneath for storage some draws and some cupboards. I have watched numerous videos but none quite...

    Small workshop

Ok I think I see it now. In Mikes picture the next board sits on top of the vertical piece the length is dictated by the overlap. If I have this right if the boards are 150mm with a 30mm overlap the vertical length from the cross piece is 120mm. The nail only needs to go in far enough to support...

    Track saw

You may remember I recently broke my compound mitre saw and asked advice re replacement. I decided to think about it for a little while and consider other options I have read a lot and watched various you tube videos and found a link here to Peter Miilard's series on track saws. It looks to me...

    Mitre saw advice

While cutting some scrap to check the angle of the blade the wood was caught by the blade and lifted up out of my hand. I thought the blade was bent and having moved the 13 sheets of OSB from in front of the cupboard where the spare blade has lived for the last 15 years. I fitted it and found...

    Aldi Stainless steel screws

I am planning to use chipboard panels for my workshop floor and came across these and I thought they might be useful. What do you think has anyone used them before. https://www.aldi.co.uk/large-chipboard- ... 3265538803

    Chisel covers

I feel guilty taking advice from members on my workshop build and not being able to give anything back. So I was wondering if anyone would be interested a quick tutorial in making a very simple chisel cover. I have made one previously but did not take any pictures. This is one of my old chisels...

    Castors

As I mentioned elsewhere I have recently acquired a band saw which came with a large metal stand which is very heavy. 2018-12-22_12-55-02 by my0771, on Flickr My primary function for my workshop build is to accommodate my leather work on one side leaving the other side free for wood butchery...

    off cuts

When I make pen cases I also make pen rests like this 20180519_172436 by my0771, on Flickr This one is also a toggle to keep the case closed. This pen is designed to fit into the front of the case. 20180507_160559 by my0771, on Flickr I bought a job lot of small pieces of various wood...

    Japanese hand saws

Following on from my chisels thread (the advice was spot on) my next acquisition is going to be a new Japanese hand saw or 2 or maybe 4. As well as building the workshop I do plan on making benches and cupboards for the inside. I do have a lightweight cordless circular saw that I can use with my...

    Chisels

I have a little more time on my hands at the moment and as ever I have turned my attention to tools that I will require for my new workshop when it is finished. As the title suggests I am looking for some chisels I have always used bevel edge as my go to and had a nice set of maples with the...

    Hello

I have been visiting for some time gathering information for an upcoming workshop build. Having been disappointed by the poor quality and high prices of “sheds” offered for sale and been inspired by builds I have read about here I have decided to build my own. I am in my 50s and after a life...
