• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Multimeter / s

Old needle type does not even show when searching local supply. I have to do the same with the small one, and then still struggle to read the display. Fluke are expensive locally (my son has one) Local supply seems to be more Hellermans and MTD. The cheepos start at ZAR200.00 similar to what...

    Multimeter / s

Anyone own a multimeter? Make? Features? What to look out for? I have a very small el-cheepo one which I bought when building the burglar alarms at our old house more than 20 years ago. I have some Xmas-vouchers to spend for one of the multi-product-warehouse-tools- shops and a replacement...

Back to school - 5 Point star

I cut out one yesterday on the scroll saw. Too small. Drew larger one first on paper, will cut it out later this afternoon.

    Making sheaths for knives

Chicago Screws (had to surf) - in the olden days we used those to bind documents between covers. Nice looking sheaths!

Following on from the falls thread ...... https://www.thewoodhaven2.co.uk/threads/falls-not-water.11299/#post-190535 I needed to see what this meant, and a quick surf delivered...

Back to school - 5 Point star

Probably the last tree for this year. It is the outside offcuts from the larger tree cut recently, joined back to back. Looks chunky, but not serious. To finish it off, a star would look good on the top, same thickness wood as the tree. First off draw on paper a 5 pointed star and then size it...

    Falls (not water)

Good advice. When showering I hold onto the grab handle when washing my face and closing my eyes. The shower also has a stainless steel seat if required.

    Photo size?

Fortunately do not have that problem as I re-size all the photos off the phone-camera to save space on laptop disk.

Walking sticks, canes etc. Lets see yours!

My main walking stick is this piece of what-ever-wood picked up during a hike. For hiking I used a staff about 1300mm long and 30mm thick. Scraped an area clean and wrote the trail name and sealed it with poly-u. There are a number of walking sticks somewhere in the garage/house from deceased...

    Falls (not water)

The Estate has looked into this to replace current panic button system. It would be a fair cost to each owner, so scrapped, and current panic button repeaters have been increased and the software at the gatehouse upgraded.

    Falls (not water)

Thanks Rog. I will see he GP in February (if I live that long!) It is the big annual blood tests. I had to go and Google what that meant. There are some exercises as well, will have a good read.

    Falls (not water)

Just dug out another short one. Use a largish magnifying glass to check for thorn heads. Part of that area is still dead from the knee replacement (left half) so no pain, just a bloody mess! We are supposed to hang our panic button around the neck, push and security will rush to the house and if...

    Falls (not water)

We have Wednesday Tea at the clubhouse organised by the social committee. Once a month they arrange for a speaker/presenter on various topics. There were two talks this year on falls, specifically the elderly. They show you how to fall and then get up again. This is all good and well how to...

What tools did you buy for yourself for xmas.

Received cash from wife and gift vouchers from kids. There is no place for more tools, (would really like a bandsaw) but .................... I am doing a bit of LED lights and maybe some controllers for the tree lights (batteries do not last and cost a lot) to run off mains power. My small...
