• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Mortgage security

Blackswanwood beat me to it. A mortgagee in possession (and this is wider than just the residential market) has to make reasonable efforts to obtain best price, and to account to the mortgagor for the period whilst in the mortgagee's possession. With some caveats as to timing, obtaining pp &c...

    Mortgage security

Well, the answer to that is quite simple: no normal lender would lend unless they could repossess and sell in the event of default. So, the mortgage would have to be set up like that. It is, technically possible to sell a part share in a property (and this is where the distinction between owning...

    On this day.......

OK, I won’t; all serene. It just seemed a little pointed, that’s all. But that’s the problem with discussions of this sort, one can so easily pick up the wrong vibes from words unaccompanied by the usual cues. So, we don’t have to fight a duel after all. Pistols for two and coffee for one. Mind...

    On this day.......

Are you having a go at me, Adrian? The risks were minimal. Erstaviken is a millpond. I don’t know whether you have sailed the Tyresö area but you are never more than 500m from land, and there are so many islands in the archipelago you could not be blown out in to the open Baltic without divine...

    On this day.......

I make no claims for its speed. Or elegance. Or refinement. I just did it for a laugh. The lack of a keel was a nuisance, hence the lee board. But it still went sideways like a drunken crab. However you could sail it into the wind, if somewhat laboriously. All part of the fun. And speed isn’t...

    On this day.......

Couldn’t find it. So, if any of you have seen this before, excuse my anecdotage Hull Straightest trees I could find on our land. Debarked, and sort of shaped. Sail. Synthetic tarpaulin, double sided tape and metal eyelets. A frame to mount it all on, and lash to the hull. Installing...

    Am I a kitchen slut?

What you need is Stock picture because mine is in the attic. It was, ahem, ‘acquired’ when I was at college. Not only is it substantially older than me, I suspect it is older than my parents. Managed to do a dinner party for 8 with it. I know it still works, because I used it a few years...

Incidence of mosquito bites this year.

Gosh, well, I will ask my partner this evening (professor of micro-biology, specialising in malaria). Eggs, larvae and pupae rely on water, and have a fairly predictable life cycle, so it’s plausible. Are you sure they are mosquitos? Whatsoever, they breed in still water. Marshes, ditches...

    On this day.......

I wouldn't get your hopes up duke. It was just a 12 foot fibreglass motor boat hull to which I attached a mast, balanced lug sail, rudder and lee board. Pretty it wasn’t. I thought I’d already put some photies on here about it, but a cursory search doesn’t reveal anything. I’ll have a better...

    Artificial Intelligence

My dear doctor, why would you want to do that? But I am Scottish.

    Artificial Intelligence

If your valuer is at all competent, and the rooms are capable of either use it shouldn’t make any difference to value. Unless you are valuing identical units (and even then…) a rate per m2 should be at least referenced. So, the actual use of a room is immaterial unless it is incapable of use for...

Sailing in the Baltic. It's a day or two out. But hey. Home built/converted yacht.

    Artificial Intelligence

Pipe dream, my dear. I can’t even drive 30 miles from the Borders to the New Town without encountering at least three sets or roadworks (count last Saturday). Add to that skirting the LEZ and (to be fair a one off a few weeks ago) road closures for Swifties...

    Artificial Intelligence

Ah, well. Not my field of expertise, but as I understand it a lot of AI is simply weighted aggregation of available material. The more specialist the topic, the more it becomes biased by one or two view points. As an aside I know of one Russell group university that ran two or three AI...

    Accident prone, moi!

You were doing a J-turn to pick up a wounded kitten from the middle of the road, You needed the rear door open to put down supressing fire. I’ve seen it in what I call a documentary, and my partner calls a Hollywood crock of… If it makes you feel any better, I’ve reversed a Subaru (one of the...

    Listed Building? Or wishful thinking?

I think there may be exceptions MikeG. The top categories/grades of listing do carry an element of cachet. ‘outstanding, special interest, &c.’. You know what people can be like. Still, you can’t lie about it effectively for any length of time as it is a matter of public record. The Scottish...

    Mission impossible ?

Oh, thank goodness someone agrees with me. The tick box system (and the ‘qualified’ people that are used to enforce it) is utterly unable to deal with non-standard properties. Ticky-tacky boxes may be fine with the algorithm (although I have severe doubts about that too). We have some...

Ultra unprocessed foods with zero food miles

Ah. I have found a piccy of our tattie harvest from last year. This is maybe a third of it, including one that looks disturbingly like, erm, an item for personal gratification. Pink fir apple and either anya or charlotte. The whole harvest lasted us about 6 months. Won’t see them again until...

    Hi Chaps & Chapesses

Greetings. Good for you with the canals. For 5 years I valued all of the Scottish canals and associated property assets. Annually. So, every year I drove the lengths of the Caledonian, the Forth and Clyde, the Union, the Crinan puddle, two even smaller puddles that constitutes what is left of...
