• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    COMPASS PLANES

I have a Record compass plane and have used it on a few occasions. Like others have said you can use a spoke shave with good effect in place of one but if you have the money and want one then why not as they will sell again if not used.

Heads up on this sad sale.

The NVQ style of education now allows people to gain NVQ qualifications directly on the job with no need to attend a college or training centre. I have worked with people that have gained their NVQ's through taking photos of their work on site and sending it in for assessment. The work can be...

    Bi-directional featherboard

Interesting that you angled the feathers to assist in holding the material both against the fence and downward. Good thinking Steve!

    Wadkin router

Yes I'd agree maybe 80s. I worked for Somerleytin Hall in the 80s and a farmer who had a passion for woodwork had some Ryobi power tools I remember him mention the the name Wadkin was on some power tools around that time too. Ryobi and Wadkin power tools are ok for trade use but not as refined...

    'Owl' Cabinet....Dun

Nice work. When I was at college learning carpentry and joinery I used to go to the library and read some of the cabinet makers books, James Krenov was one that I always found very interesting: https://thekrenovarchive.org/ His style looks simple but requires a great deal of skill to pull off...

    Connector Systems

I just checked what bits I used for the V.Carve on the below plaque and for the words The House I used a 60 deg V bit. I did a pocket around the Ferrari then used a 60 deg V bit to put a bevel on the edge. I don't do a lot of this sort of thing but have found you have to experiment with fonts...

    Connector Systems

It's a machine on Alixpress made in China that is advertised as doing the same thing as the Lamello Zeta P2 but at much less cost if you not interested that's absolutly fine. I have a Fern biscuit jointer that is 25 years old, not as well made as some other makes but also does the job LoL...

    Best alternative to Photoshop?

Interesting what you say about web sites only opening on some search engines. My laptops: One runs Windows Vista and is sometimes used to run MACH3 for my CNC. Two laptops (i5 and i3) run windows 10. The i3 is used for my CNC. Two (Both i7) laptops run windows 11 One PC (i7) Desktop runs...

    Best alternative to Photoshop?

I still use my 2009 27" Imac but not for the internet, some of the programmes do not work any more so it is less useful in some respects than some of the older windows systems I have. The actual spec on the Imac is ok and it coulsd easily run windows 10. I buy what fits my requirements and...

    Best alternative to Photoshop?

When Apple updates it's operating system you can and do loose the functionality of some software until it gets to a point where the Apple software simply will not run or you can not install the latest OS. My 2009 Imac will not open a lot of web pages, has lost the ability to run some of the...

    Best alternative to Photoshop?

I have a 2009 Imac and a newer Mac Mini which I don't use that much because Apple make their systems obsolete after a few years. I have now gone back to windows on Laptops. Windows seems to operate much better than in 2009 and is better for CAD work than an Apple machine which is one of the...

    Woodworm

Why use perfrerated wood for boat building? It is likely the minor holes will swell if submerged and any infestation will not survive but why risk water ingress.
