• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Now for the Chairs

Here is the full process of carving the leg from the cut out blank to a finished leg (well except sanding). Take one leg: Then shape the base of the leg as it is not a square: Trace pattern of the ball and claws onto the base: Extend the lines up the claw and ball and then carve the...

Will the awnings be fixed or dismountable for transport and installed when you set up camp?

    Now for the Chairs

Today was the day to decide about talons. Long and pointy or short and stubby. I chose the latter. Purely for practical reasons. The talons hold the balls about 1 inch from the floor and are a prime location for damage from feet. Two down ten to go.

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

The reasons I suggested wood fibre insulation was that it would be stiffer than celotex and bond to the cladding far better. The downside is it is probably much heavier.

    A pigtail and a carver's screw

Very good. I have recently bought one. I spent ages searching then found out they make them 20 miles up the road. Yours looks far better.

    Buildings insurance

If it is a listed building, it is common to need a valuation of the rebuild cost as they can vary significantly from the RICS model. If the insurance company said they were going to get a valuation that is on them. But who provided the value in the insurance policy the company or your friend?

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

Did you plane that lot by hand? Did you consider an alternative insulation, a wood fibre such as pavatex isolair?

    Fantasy Tool Box - sharpening

The tormek is in permanent use when carving for the honing wheels. Quite literally every 15 minutes it is back to the honing wheels. Surprisingly I bought the tube of autosol 40 years ago and it is not even half used

    Fantasy Tool Box - sharpening

It depends which tree you are on:LOL:I use the lapping film to hone carving tools. Especially gouges where honing the concave face is difficult. Also lapping film is not expensive and can be stuck on various shapes such as dowel or curved surfaces, so it is very useful for carving. I use...

    Chairs - Done!

Yep. With most chairs you can choose which to make difficult either the tenons or the mortises. I chose the mortises. Nick chose the tenons. At the risk of starting a “sharpening” argument I am not sure if one is easier than the other. I was driven more by where I wanted to place the weak point...

Excellent idea to fix the lapping film to Perspex. I was about to use MRMDF.

    Green ash.

I have seen it before. Last year. I was wondering if it was a historic issue or caused by the die back disease. I got no further than that thought.
