• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Powering a bandsaw off grid

I have 4 3 phase machines that i regularly run from single phase mains. I could set up an experiment running them from my genny if you like? The largest load i have to try is 3hp 2200watts

    Powering a bandsaw off grid

Order a 3 phase model and run it via an inverter. The inverter will ensure a gentle start up and thus remove the surge load on the genny

    Inverters appearing in domestic appliances

Adrian, do you have any info on preferred makes please. Ideally I'd want something that can sit on the wall with a probe going into the freezer and wifi alert to my phone as you mention. Thanks Bob

    Dynamic pricing

I have read that typically you look around at several holidays sometimes returning to your chosen one several times before booking. Companies track this behaviour and dont always offer the best deal. Advice is to make your decision using one browser and book using another thus appearing to be...

Does anyone know anything about "security" cameras?

You can get cameras that record movement to an SD card which if you can't use wifi, you should be able remove and read every now and then. There is no obvious technology to provide a nefarious activity detection. However the presence of the camera and the knowledge that it is recording should...

    Motor brake rather Crude ?

I find that some 1.5 hp motors are just fine on 13 amp plug , others not This motor is around 2.5 hp and i would be very surprised if it would start with 13amp fuse. The plated speed is very strange too. A 2 pole motor on 50 hz is usually around 2800 rpm Ive not had that much experience with...

    Bread; makers, people or mechanical?

Loaf weight tends to refer to finished weight which is roughly equal to flour plus liquid. Any extra ingredients being balanced out by the evaporation in cooking.

    Anyone help ID this tooling

If that measurement is correct them its neither metric nor imperial. All the kity stuff ive seen is metric. Maybe bore it out to 35 or more and make a pair of top hat washers to get it back to fit 30 mm

    Inverters appearing in domestic appliances

Yes it is a big saving but the old one almost certainly has a worn compressor causing it to run over 50% of the time. It would not have used that much power when new. The inverters i use on my machines have been faultless. Obviously modern ones in white goods have had their electronics “value...

    Inverters appearing in domestic appliances

Yes the seals are good and thermostat holding within a couple of degrees. Almost certainly a worn out compressor. Quite likely 20 on more years old. Another failure mechanism although not in my case is the insulation failing. Condensation forms in the insulation and it slowly turns into a block...

    Inverters appearing in domestic appliances

Inverters in the sense of Variable Frequency Drives have been in use for many years to give machines variable speeds when used with 3 phase motors as some of you know. However they are being introduced to various domestic items now. *Air conditioner/heat pumps to give variable rates of heating...
