• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Parking Control

Anyone been caught? A number of local hostelries have had this system installed in my locality. I am convinced that it’s a stupid idea since it’s already reducing the numbers of customers to a great extent. The idea is that customers are required to enter their vehicle reg number in a terminal...

    Pay to read?

Anyone else tired of clicking on what looks like an interesting story, only to find that it’s yet another item that you must pay to read? I don’t think this will really bring in new subscribers and may damage the platform it’s on. It’s just driving me away,

    Light Oak?

I’ve just seen yet another add for what I think must be imported rubbish furniture. This one describes the junk as light oak and then goes on to state that it’s made of cedar! How the hell does that work as an accurate description ?

    Jay Blades Home Fix

Just viewed the first one I recorded earlier this week. Anybody seen one? He did show how to change a tap washer but the rest was rubbish with a hint of danger., Barry Bucknell was ten times better in the 60 s, and we laughed at him!. I think there is a need for a programme on home repairs/...

    Evri racing

My suggestion for the 2028 olympics. All you have to do is get from an armchair to your own front door before some moron throws your parcel over a neighbours gate or fence. Training is not going well so far for me!

De Walt 2000 watt router repair

Has anyone had one of these repaired ? This machine suits my needs but appears to have been superseded by a 2300 watt model which has been “improved” in ways that don’t suit me. It also has a warning on the net indicating that I it has a problem or two. Spares seem to be available from...

    Dewalt router problem

My 625e is over twenty years old but has been lightly used. Yesterday while running it made a little chuff of smoke and stopped. With the fuse replaced it will now run for a few seconds and then stop. Any ideas or suggestions welcome!

    Imported tat

I’ve just spotted a story claiming that the air cargo industry can’t cope with the current demand for Temu goods. I thought that the tools sold by this company had been soundly slated as poor quality, it seems that other products are so cheap they sell in quantity.

    Flattening an oilstone

Steve asked many posts back about this and I’ve finally got round to offering an answer. I’m sure that there are numerous methods but the only one I’ve ever needed is very simple, a cup of yellow builders sand, water, and a piece of 6 mm plate glass. The glass is used on a flat bench top with a...

    David and Jays touring toolshed

How many of you have spotted that the tool sheds doors have been braced the wrong way ( or perhaps hung one the wrong sides) I hope the craftspeople they visit are demonstrating more expertise.

    Axminster closures

I understand that Axi are closing at least one store, does anyone know what’s happened to the demand for tools? Or is this just another symptom of the curse of the drop shippers.

    Temu cutters

I seem to be getting a number of adds from this company. They are offering free delivery, returns within 90 days and very low prices for TCT cutters and other consumables. I don’t need any of these items at the moment but the prices seem to be too low and I am wondering if it’s some sort of...

    B&Q Prices

Just called in to pick up a few items including 2litres of white spirit. £6.50! I make that double the current petrol price. Prices generally seemed to be higher than I expected for many items but they seem to be encouraging the internet shoppers with claims of 24 hour shopping. Or perhaps I...

    More spindle moulding

As an alternative to being bored myself I thought I would bore others with a little insight into slightly different methods of use. The limiter cutters shown can be turned to give a 9mm or 12 mm rebate when run in conjunction with a 125 mm rebate block. I have three sets of knives giving moulds...

    Mixing spindle moulder cutters

]I thought this might be of interest to spindle moulder enthusiasts. Most of my work before retirement involved furnishings for narrow boats and Dutch barges. This is a method of edging block board that I have frequently used, it avoids the need to clean off lipped edges and gives a “fiddle...

    The other place

I have looked at the site on occasion but not contributed for many months, a quick look at the joke section sums it up. Had a look today and ran into a wall of intrusive advertising, won’t be trying again I think it’s time to exit completely.

Bright idea - after only 20 years!

As part of my move to dispose of unidentified and little used templates hanging from the workshop walls, my eye fell on the four large lumps of MDF used as templates for making external edging pieces for the corners of table tops, partitions etc. Each time I’ve needed a different size corner...
