• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

What would you do? It’s not wood.

Offer them an omelette? I guess try to match what is in the kitchen with what they can eat - what more could you possibly do?

    Fish Dishes?

Very odd, isn't it? I was trawling through my memories of fish and seafood meals, and they all seemed to be in France or further afield. Some very happy memories of sitting on walls and beaches in the UK, eating just-cooked crabs etc, but decent fishy meals seem to be very limited here unless...

I'll add that to the list!

    Fish Dishes?

Well, that's a lovely looking list of dishes! I'll have to pick my way through it, I'm not allowed spicy things at the moment but hopefully soon. It turns out prices vs sustainability etc can be quite an issue. Trying to figure what the company I linked to above were charging relative to...

    Fish Dishes?

I had this reply, all sounds good to me: 'Good morning Thank you for your email. All the fish is fresh from the mornings market and can be frozen on receipt. Kind regards' etc . I'll try a box and report.

    Fish Dishes?

I may try this source - I bought from them in the past when my usual was closed and it was excellent. Free delivery over £100 or a bit short of £10 with DPD for baskets less than £100. Selection straight from Newlyn market sounds good, I've just written to confirm that the fish in the 'Fish box...

    Fish Dishes?

As a student, I cooked bolognese for my then Canadian girlfriend. She pretended to enjoy it, and later described it as ground beef, bacon and tomatoes warmed up. It's better these days, but I'm not sure how much better :)

Senility, stupidity, diesel in petrol tanks

I caught myself doing the reverse once on the way to work and in a hurry - I caught myself in time, finished filling with diesel, and it turns out passing a small percentage of petrol through a diesel engine is a good thing to do.

Progress. The haddock came frozen from the supermarket, and I forgot to buy breadcrumbs. I used an innovative method of applying the egg after the flour, which involved pouring it on and rubbing it in. I may review the method in future. Have to say, it was delicious with baby new potatoes and a...

    Fish Dishes?

Yes, I'd much rather frozen on-board than hanging around in a supermarket or elsewhere. Waitrose is a 5 minute walk from home, maybe if I monitored what is new on any day that could work better. But definitely plan to find a frozen supplier. Anyway, I've printed off your list and will tape it...

    Fish Dishes?

Do Pesky deliver fresh or frozen? It looks from their site like fresh but I can't see where it specifies. But it does look a really good setup - once I've got my head around the 'market' thing and finding what's available. And yes, when I head west I tend not to go to the places boats might...

    Fish Dishes?

Definitely enough for now! Thank you - I've been hunting online since you posted, trying to find a good source, preferably not too far away. I'm near Cardiff, Ian (tho not close enough to pop to the market for dinner).* There are definitely plenty selling fish, but I became really picky about...

    Fish Dishes?

That's fantastic, Adrian. Exactly what I was hoping for. I'm going to work my way through the list, where I can get them. My favourite, I think, is plain boiled crab - I lived near Newlyn many years ago and used to buy from the business that sent them all over the country, wonderful and...

    Fish Dishes?

Now my youngest has flown the nest, I'm cooking for one in the evenings. Not having to have a conversation about what's for tea, I seem to have defaulted to frozen fish, the breaded/ whatever variety, and realise I've wanted to eat mainly fish for quite a while but haven't on account of...

    Dinghy advice?

That's really helpful, Adrian. I've not been in a DQ Dory, just seen people diving into the water from them and like the look of stability, so it's based on little. My interest stems from when we were kids, dad built a Mirror dinghy and that was a big part of our holidays down in South Devon...

    Dinghy advice?

Thanks Alasdair - I'd like the hardwood route but tbh the boat's not really worth the expense, and without bracing could move too much? I'm most likely to go down the ply route, I think, but still wondering about how to attach to the existing seating. That said, doing nothing is an option...

    Dinghy advice?

Adrian - ours is an early one, but most did have seats along the sides, which isn't to say it was a good idea! That said, it'd only be for the person controlling the outboard to adjust position forward, a second person would be sat forward and on the opposite side. If nothing else, the side...

    Dinghy advice?

A friend recently gave us this Gloucester Light Dory rowing boat, which had sat for umteen years, and which we did some basic work on to look like this: It's 15'6" long and a faff to load onto my lad's car, much worse to get onto my van, so I went looking for a cheap trailer, up to a few...

Learning to use a Myford 7 lathe

We're looking to build a wheeling machine and need to decide whether to buy or make the rollers. These two tools came with our lathe when we bought it, I seem to remember one was for cutting spheres, not sure which, let alone how you use it or if it could be used for making rollers of various...

    Jacobs chuck

The Jacobs chuck that came with our Myford lathe is in pretty poor condition - I've tried to sort it and failed. Actually, it's a fair bit worse after today's efforts. It's a No. 34 0-1/2" chuck on MT2 and I'd like to replace it with a similar size one but not pay a huge amount - can anyone...
