• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Post a photo of the last thing you made...

This is a side gate made in iroko for a friend. Every winter the face side bows out about 15mm because I failed make enough allowance for expansion of the boards. It’s about ten years old now and I’m confident it will last another twenty at least, but it proves that even really old hands make...

As suggested the box would be better with the grain running horizontally with a handle support fastened to the outside face or tenoned into the top edge. I’ve never made a tote but most I've seen rely on nails and plywood rather than quality joinery.

    I made a new tool............but what's it for?

There must be a reason for the sharpened ends on those plastic inserts. Is it intended for removing surplus glue from board edges?

I think the expansion /contraction of the horizontal board will simply snap off the pins.

Very nicely made, but are those pins on the corners of the tote just short grain?

My suggestion for the 2028 olympics. All you have to do is get from an armchair to your own front door before some moron throws your parcel over a neighbours gate or fence. Training is not going well so far for me!

De Walt 2000 watt router repair

I followed a utube video to dismantle the router and found, as predicted, the armature was scrap. The commutator segments had fallen off and caused damage to other parts. Shame because I had invested £30 in new bearings.to fit my diagnosis.

    Garden Table

I prefer the first of the two patterns for the top, but it has the same problem that damaged the outer edge of my iroko table. The expansion of the centre board was the cause of the problem. The centre board of mine was originally 125 mm wide and the small increase in width caused by moisture...

De Walt 2000 watt router repair

Sorry. Brain out of gear ! It’s a 625E type. 5 About 20 years old but very lightly used In use it suddenly made sparks and smoke I’ve been told that spares are probably not available but they are shown on various internet sites, in many instances the parts of the 2000 and 2300 watt versions...

De Walt 2000 watt router repair

Has anyone had one of these repaired ? This machine suits my needs but appears to have been superseded by a 2300 watt model which has been “improved” in ways that don’t suit me. It also has a warning on the net indicating that I it has a problem or two. Spares seem to be available from...

    Options for custom spindle profile

Trevanion has it sorted, slice off the stock with an angled circular saw and present the piece at an angle. I think that two cutters will be needed with two passes to complete it I’m not impressed with the idea that three cutters are required

    Dewalt router problem

My 625e is over twenty years old but has been lightly used. Yesterday while running it made a little chuff of smoke and stopped. With the fuse replaced it will now run for a few seconds and then stop. Any ideas or suggestions welcome!

woodworking project ideas for mothers birthday

If you have the equipment to make one of these they are a great way of keeping things within reach. The barley twists and fancy edging are not vital, a basic version will serve just as well.

    Flattening an oilstone

You normally sharpen plane irons with a very slight crown so a hollow in the stone won’t be serious drawback when sharpening them. A chisel really must have a totally flat back face.
