• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

New vs Old Machines + Optimum Drill Press

If I were considering both a bandsaw and pillar drill, (cannot answer yer P/T question) what would be foreseen to get well used for said buisness, then it would be industrial without question. I bought a solid pillar drill like a Naerok, with a 16mm chuck, totally abused for 40... I could buy...

Lathe sanding drum, hand held belt sander abrasives, a good choice?

Sorry only getting back to ye now, whatever the reason I cannot enter text into the reply box?? This worked brilliantly I must say, and got the job done, thicknessing that UHMW plastic without any hassle whatsoever, Only one belt used, the stuff doesn't wear abrasives too much. Thankfully I can...

Lathe sanding drum, hand held belt sander abrasives, a good choice?

Sorta like a luthiers drum sander I suppose, just not intended for the job, as I'll not be making a hinged table for starters... Not having a castor system for the lathe is the smartarse answer,😅 *as you might notice... (perhaps not though, with me lousy photographing skills) the wood being...

Lathe sanding drum, hand held belt sander abrasives, a good choice?

Howdy folks, it's been so long that my computer cannot write in the reply box for this site, so having to use a tablet instead. I cannot seem to arrange pictures correctly, so cannot write any descriptions of whatever. Not sure if this works as well as it could, as I've not seen anyone install...

Startrite table saw - table alignment help

I tried what Distinterior mentioned, without success, but worth a shot I suppose. https://www.thewoodhaven2.co.uk/threads/startrite-275-tablesaw-problem.9436/

Startrite table saw - table alignment help

Is the blade aligned with the slots in the table?, as the fence can be adjusted via the rail mounting blocks. Further checking would include the same "pick a tooth" check, whilst the blade is at 45 degrees. Thereafter, further fettling would include this test...

    Chisels

What's wrong with the ones you have? For woodworking, I've got cheap full length ones, and never found them to be lacking. The Tesco ones with non cranked handles for chopping, and newish Stanley ones with a cranked handles which are pretty darn flat, for pairing. Oh, nearly forgot, I do own a...

Horrible job to do, any tips very welcome.

I was trying to find the article, but it seems my computer software is too old to get the link for you.. but if you type into google (hopefully it'll work where you are)... "Horror as moths invade Northern Ireland family's new dream home" A family who built their "dream home" using eco-friendly...

Horrible job to do, any tips very welcome.

Is wool not a huge breeding ground for various moths, like the brown house moth, white headed type, and clothes moth. Had a huge plague of them at one time in this renter, flying into your dinner, maggots everywhere crawling up the ceiling, in the furnishings, and what to me looks like "sleeping...

    Bread Baking

I've yet to try any healthy bread, as I see spelt mentioned, but would find it interesting if some are making some from the original delicate/less profitable grains, since your going to the trouble of baking. Not that I've any inclination to try any time soon, for good reason. (Getting close to...

Startrite table saw - table alignment help

I'm no expert on these, but it looks like it's in good nick. My one had one of the handles broken, and possibly some issues because of it. Top is pretty darn flat on my DS 275 version (sliding table) otherwise the same with twin mitre slot, left tilting blade, your future one has a less...

    Hello everyone.

Nice to see you here Distinterior, as I might have a question for you regarding my 275. I did plan sending you PM on the other place about it, but it seemed that the conglomerate has made a start on the paywall/privileges plan, though that could just be me auld laptop! Hoping I can get back...

    The Accidental Woodworking Club

For the ambitious, I think the panel gauge is an excellent choice, to come away with a tool at the end, would add more value to me. What about some trestles like Ben's, with some long planks straightened up, it would make for a decent fairly portable workbench. Once again, for those with that...

    Suggestions for excavating this hole

Haha, I missed that one Steve! Well, if there ever was one, I guessed this might be it, but I guess RogerS isn't so silly as to potentially waste his time! Scratchng me ceann again on another application on where it might be useful. ...until then I suppose.

    Suggestions for excavating this hole

Just posting this for fun really, since I've never seen anyone else do it, Nor have I ever tried the method either... but it just might be a suitable application....but that's only if you've got a pillar drill, and can use it on the..(seemingly disassembled?) stile.. Or... if you've got a...

    Bandsaw 'fettling'...

p.s. Another thought which might not be so displeasing, an option should this happen being, there's nothing stopping you from gluing the old ones, (should they be the loosest fit) onto the new ones, and crowning them thereafter. Though finding a suitable adhesive might prove to be quite...

    Bandsaw 'fettling'...

Hello again, sorry to sound so pessimistic about things, but I would expect the new tyre to fly off aswell, very quickly as per the usual bandsaw troubleshooting threads. i.e. I would be very surprised if that doesn't happen. Once again, worth studying the top Italian machines to see their...
