• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Bandsaw 'fettling'...

I doubt they came loose, just that there is likely misalignment between the wheels or motor, and as Steve mentions rightly, not to touch them, without being positive that is the only solution possible, as things can go wrong in an instant.... i.e. destroyed motor,or worn wheel bore. You'll...

    Bandsaw 'fettling'...

Hello again Accipiter, I mentioned a new blade or one in good condition, i.e not cracked, to be sure the wobble wasn't because of that. A blade with compressed set will still run perfectly...(I don't mean cutting) Not sure what the max width (thin gauge) blade which that saw could run, I guess...

    Bandsaw 'fettling'...

Hello, wobble and vibration issues is likely due to misalignment of the wheels, Well...that is the case if the blade is in good condition. I've posted many threads on such, just about everywhere, which you'd easily find if you searched for wheel and motor alignment. Note to seek info from late...

    Spindle Moulder Fence material

There's a UK company called Metallization, who can seemingly coat anything (i.e. even a credit card) with anything. I found the video impressive, to say the least, and I think anyone after seeing it, would be hard pressed to imagine that this isn't going to become more common. Although, I...

Heavy news to hear Mark, looks like she had a good life with ye. Difficult to offer any advice, as I dare not wish to think a about such, for our pals.

A timely time for a chainsaw thread. Thought I'd post an excellent channel or two, to look for... Buckin' Billy's channel is a hoot, probably the most popular and entertaining on the tube... https://www.youtube.com/@BuckinBillyRaySmith Here's another fella I've found yesterday, which goes into...

    Very basic restoration!

I should have added Robbie, that would be the way I'd suggest for removal of varnish or paint, from the show face, the back and the long grain edges of the piece. (but, not the end grain, which would likely have to be sanded) Though this piece you've shown, has a decal of some sort...though...

    Very basic restoration!

Welcome to the forum Robbie. The cabinet/card scraper, i.e an offcut from a disposable handsaw, would be the tool I'd suggest. A fine, single cut file, like a "farmers own" style, would be suitable to get a sharp/crisp 90 deg edge on the tool. You might want a perfectly square block of timber...

    Quick introducton :)

Hello again Michele More curious about the kerfing plane, and those who use one, and I suppose especially so regarding the chore element, as the heavier duty frame saw looks a more reasonable proposition, for those without space or historical interest. In my mind, the latter doing such for...

    Quick introducton :)

Hello, I'm probably not making sense, and was merely poking asking the why/where/who, as I've not came across many articles which include such a tool for preparing stock. I've seen differing style frame saws for resawing, take David on the other forums for example, but not many else who's...

    Quick introducton :)

Welcome Michele, Curious on what source of timbers you'll be planning on using, since a kerfing plane's quite a specialized tool to have made, right off the bat!... and especially so, with your wish list not mentioning much apart from the sizing and squaring raw timber bit. Seems like you might...

Lathe sanding drum, hand held belt sander abrasives, a good choice?

Thanks for the replies folks. I perhaps should have specified not wanting to convert the lathe into a semi dedicated wide drum sander, as I keep it crammed up against the wall, so it'll be slightly annoying to use this wee drum, as it'll need to be fed from the back of the machine. Space being...

Lathe sanding drum, hand held belt sander abrasives, a good choice?

Here's an example, this sander came up from the site "Powertools.ie", when I typed in Makita belt sander, 100mm... What say ye, about the likelyhood of this sized unit staying produced, or is there another sized unit I should be thinking about, in order to suit a custom made drum?. I see the...

Lathe sanding drum, hand held belt sander abrasives, a good choice?

Hi Steve, I was just figuring there would be such for handheld counterparts, as it is with floor standing machines. From what you suggest, it might seem a good idea to thrall through various companies what sells hand held sanding machines, in order to see all/most of them, makes something which...

Lathe sanding drum, hand held belt sander abrasives, a good choice?

Hello all, I need to thickness some UMHW cutting board strips soon, and thinking I could put my lathe to good use here, if I rigged it up as a mini drum sander. I have a hefty faceplate which came with the machine, and some suitable composite materials for making the drum. Not looked into this...

Hello folks, Getting back to working on this machine now, so might as well post some of the work I've done in the time since which I'm sure most of you have seen. Just getting things out of the way, in order to make some up to date posts soon enough. Got an insert installed onto the extension...

A wheely good workbench solution, Version 2, Now we're rolling!

Thought I'd post a wee update, having used this for some time now, and can report no niggles whatsoever and extremely pleased of the revision. Absolutely no gripes at all about moving the bench now, even if it's just a few inches. Such can make a big difference for the four legged helpers. Some...
