• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

The worst safety glasses I've ever had the misfortune to buy. But SUPERB service from Uvex

That's a great result @RogerS, nice to see folks standing behind their product. On a similar note, should it not be drifting too much off topic, and seeing as these are likely going to be folks good ones.... Does anyone know if you can restore old scuffed foggy plastic on a buffing wheel, or...

    Nice chest, needs minor repairs.

Surely it could be counted as authentic with a few taps of a gennou... or whatever equivalent tool from where it came, for what one could call a sympathetic restoration? On the other hand, should this chest be of little value, and it finds another purpose.... and for whatever reason you might...

    A belt sander revamp?

This might be fun, hopefully that is! :) Been planning on getting rid of the huge splayed legs for the thing for a while, super annoying. Might as well try and improve things whilst I'm at it. Quite a bit of pondering needs doing... in order to make this machine most usable... First things...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Some shimming required also Done some testing and things went well, got thinking about how to keep those rings put, Too much procrastination on how best to do it, as was thinking the other rings would need some jiggery, but it turned out they only needed a straight chamfer with a chainsaw...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Routed and drilled out the wing, not without tribulations I might add, If I were doing this job again, i.e with a suitable sized cutter for the corners, but without a fancy bearing to guide it, I'd make sure the router could be trusted to be cylindrical, and either make it so, or make a plate...

Epoxy questions for a slowing things down hack?

Never posted a pic of the first application as the camera was out in the shed. Had another go with the epoxy, this time I didn't mix the hardener with the dust prior, and mixed the chilled epoxy with the dust after the mix was done. Aiming to get the same amount done with about the same amount...

Am I an idiot to try a small boring head for face milling on a pillar drill?

I done some experimentation before on seeing if I could utilize my pillar drill's table as a chuck, by loosening it slightly, which didn't work as the fit is fairly sloppy on my machine. It would'a been nice if it were possible to do some light milling like such. Perhaps it might be so, on...

Epoxy questions for a slowing things down hack?

I was reading some on the subject since, and there's lots of if's and buts regarding various curing methods, some articles mentioning without constant heat, possible chance of slowing the mix under the surface layer down! and for starters things should be about 10 degrees warmer in my shed for...

Epoxy questions for a slowing things down hack?

Hi Bob, using the material to make a putty, what's hopefully the same colour, and hopefully still retaining the characteristics of the composite material seems worth it to me, as I don't like nooks and crannies for grit to hide in. Having done some plastic repairs with the stuff before, it just...

Epoxy questions for a slowing things down hack?

Woz kinda waiting for Rob to share his thoughts on that, as I'm not very knowledgeable about routers. i.e.. https://www.thewoodhaven2.co.uk/threads/cosman-boxes.9032/ and have another pair of them what'll get bored out to other sizes aswell. Not too rushed about using the router table, as...

Does anyone know what this is ?

Mitre saw hold down shafts? The witness markings around the upper section might suggest so.

Epoxy questions for a slowing things down hack?

Hello folks Had another go at trying to find information on tinting two part epoxy, just to see if there's mention of mixing pigments with the hardener, and all I can find is Totalboat or West systems slow setting stuff, which looks very different to what I have. The only info I've seen...

Epoxy questions for a slowing things down hack?

Good for others to know Rob, though I've spent my glue sniffin funds on a half price infrared thermometer which might actually come in handy today, re-Trevanion's post. My older gun got confiscated, and been waiting for them in the bargain section. Indeed Jim, plastic strips might be a...

Epoxy questions for a slowing things down hack?

Hello folks I'm needing to fill the terrible gaps around a router table insert plate, which I failed miserably at installing yesterday. Hoping I could use a dust and epoxy mix of the same horrible but good material for the job. I'll have to clean things up yet, and get the plate leveled and...

    Kity 419 table saw.

One reason for having a riving knife which can be used for such being these kinda cuts. Just mentioning since you have two of them, (presuming they are the same thickness) Handy to have the spare really as you could use it as a template, should you have some suitable stock around. That could...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Well.... time came for the job of sinking that plate. Let me start off by saying there's no decent router tutorial out there, well at least not what I've seen, and as far as I'm aware, there's no website containing woodworking content called "real tube" i.e without all the gizmo's you see...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Already forgetting the upgrade to the forum you've done Alasdair? It sure makes things a doddle for posting, so it's us who should be thankful to yourself. Still seeking some kind of answer as to what three sizes of ole's in these insert rings I should be considering, and as of yet only...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

That didn't turn out too bad at all, I was expecting the plates to move about. Few tacks before getting everything off that black stuff. Lousy welds, but I was proceeding with caution. I didn't rig up anything for holding the discs when angle grinding, and had a few slips, so I tried resting...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Getting eager to see how the next stage will fair out, finished off the rough cutting This wee chainsaw file (twas in the chainsaw section) is a fair bit smaller than it looks here, and was great for a little scraping of the bottom. Nice to have the belt sander proving its worth it's keep...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Hopefully I can give ye an update later on things, as didn't get into the shed much since... I'll add some pics to this post, as it will make better sense in a bit. All done so far was to drill out five holes in each on the smaller plates for welding to the upper portion. Scribed five points...
