• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Looking more and more like I'll have to do it the hard way, and I've still got to see if I've got a suitable holesaw. Not being sure what this material is, as it's a composite of sorts, which is quite dense, seemingly a lot more in hardness to other plastics I've worked, something more like bone...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

That might be a better option with the grub screws, but numpty as I am, ended up thinking I had accounted for enough, and found I had to make the plate a little narrower than planned. I didn't reckon at the time I'd be wanting a hole about 97mm until I checked it, as that leaves not quite as...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Hi Mike, I'm wishing to find out a possible technique to rout out a recess for the steel insert plate to sit in. As of yet, just drilled a 1/2" hole drilled for centering up a bit, and using some machined half inch bar which will maintain alignment for marking out. (not ground the 3/4"...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Hello folks, will have to excuse the lack of pics, but sure I can bump this up later with some. Making a router insert plate for a tablesaw extension wing at the moment... I've only marked out the rounded corners on this 8mm steel plate, but not shaped them yet, as I've kept the sharp edges for...

    Hi 2

Another welcome from me Ian, I only recently came across some pics I'd saved of your super impressive cyclone build, from the first woodhaven site. The place was looking like a real productive setup, so it'll be interesting to see the place now. All the best Tom

Interesting veneering video on making a star pattern

"I bookmatch the headstocks, too, but they can never come out a mirror image. But I think that makes them more interesting. I'm lucky really to only have to work in pairs, instead of 8s or 10s" Indeed, so quite interesting to see the other technique mentioned, what's used to improve lining up...

Interesting veneering video on making a star pattern

No doubt you're very fimiliar with the first bit of the video Malcolm, i.e the use of a template (often acrylic) to see the grain is parallel with the joint for your tops (soundboards, for those unfamiliar with the terms) which I needn't screenshot... Regarding luthiere and/or guitar building...

Interesting veneering video on making a star pattern

Thought this video would be worth posting, as I learned a few tips from it. Most notable what I've not seen anyone suggest, orientation of the grain lines for more consistency whilst bookmatching. Flipping every second veneer, (note the circled numbers) is probably a well known thing to do...

    Bad Axe Saw Set

Perhaps Interesting from a different perspective, if it could sort out old bandsaw blades too, albeit slowly should it be possible, then the idea might be worth the trade off, for some who don't have the space for large jiggery. Saying that, I'd love to know if there's a pliers type setting...

WANTED Screw box and tap- wood

Presuming you may have seen the Carters whittling series on the matter, it's very good.

    Intended Use ?

Precisely the opposite to something suitable for use on a shooting board, unless you needed to adjust it, that is. Handy to have some sorta rebating or shoulder plane for that. All the best Tom

New bandsaw from Record Power - Sabre 300

On further inspection, it seems that there might be some adjustment after all! I didn't spot those raised mounts for the motor, and merely thought it was bolted straight to the chassis. That simplifies things, not having to make arrangements for letting the motor in... though likely to make a...

New bandsaw from Record Power - Sabre 300

There's an honest build of machine in Somerset at the minute for 750. They don't make'em like they used to. Wheels not quite as nice as some particular Centauro's, the CO machines 80's sometime to 1995, (Strictly the first ones which came with telescopic guards, those featuring complete...

New bandsaw from Record Power - Sabre 300

Seemingly, some folk make use of the horrible slot off to the side.

New bandsaw from Record Power - Sabre 300

Wouldn't you think, there's not enough competition to make a fully adjustable machine these days... Designed to break, just like what you get from any other manufacturer. How easy would it be to let the motor in or shim out, to suit whichever direction the upper wheel is facing... we don't get...

Link to BGHM German machinery safety guide PDF

No bother Ian It'd certainly be interesting to see the approach taken from someone who's done things "the old fashioned way" across the pond, and ironing out the niggles of this with certain bells and whistles on your new slider... that is doing things the hard way as per seen on the PDF, as...
