• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hmmmm. Not sure I can help. Wadkin would have used test number 3783 three times over the years. The cast brass Wadkin & Co. tag means it's pre-1936. If it's from Wadkin's first test number sequence: test 3166 was carried out in September, 1925; while test 4087 was carried out in July 1926...

    Calling all Wadkin nuts

A bit more research shows Wadkin & Co. became Wadkin Ltd. on 28th March, 1935. However machines already ordered continued to be outshopped with Wadkin & Co. tags well into 1936. These machines no longer carried the old cast brass Wadkin & Co. tags, but a short lived etched tinned brass sheet...

    Wadkin FM

Interesting to see the cutterblock has provision for moulding knives. Wadkin seem to be a bit hit and miss with that feature. The 9" RB has it as standard, the 12" and 16" RD only as special order. I'm not sure what the story is with the RZ and RM - except that Jack Forsberg's RM has the...

Development of the Wadkin RB Surface Planer.

Thanks. Both SWMBO and myself have had two jabs (Pfizer - the only option here), both daughters have had one jab, and my son has had at least one to date. I believe that is a "Brookhirst" isolating switch, possibly containing fuses as well - an option on many Wadkin machines. Cheers, Vann.

    Vintage Wood Machining Books

Aha. One of these showed up over here a few years back (2017), and for some reason I kept the pikkies. I see some minor differences. Anyway, enjoy. Cheers, Vann.

Things have really gone downhill with Wadkin...

It looks like you're on to it - seems they make (or have made for them) two versions of each model - with and without Tersa heads. Which doesn't explain why their under/over isn't a "Planter & Thicknester" ;) Cheers, Vann.

A New addition to my Workshop Family!

+1 Nice idea. My 4 (2 horses, 2 ponies) at 15 years of age are needing repair/replacement, as the legs are getting wonky. I've tightened the screws many times, but now they need more substantial work. Cheers, Vann.

    Auction that will interest.

Hah, this one makes me chuckle. I don't know what brand the machine is - but Auto-Memota is the switchgear - manufactured by MEM (Midland Electric Manufacturing Co. Ltd.) - not the machine. For example: I have MEM switchgear on my Denbigh drill press; my Wadkin woodlathe (built in); and my...

Of the fifth batch on the list I've only found one machine (so far): Batch A 2170 - RBs 486 to 509 - 24 machines commissioned 6th March, 1945: RBA 497, test 25435, of 1945 - United Kingdom - Wadkin Ltd. tin tag; There's one change from the fourth batch on the list: - 2nd type of fence (same as...

    Wadkin PK Sliding Tables.

Anyway, I want to be able to (eventually) fit the sliding table extension WITH fence, to my saw. I could tap the offending 9/16" BSW holes out to 5/8" BSW - but with one being 12tpi and the other 11tpi it going to have to cut a new thread. And with the difference in diameter being 1/16" (1.6mm)...

    Wadkin PK Sliding Tables.

This is the sliding table off PK 1857. Blue circles indicate 1/2" BSW (12 tpi) threaded holes; Red circles indicate 5/8" BSW (11 tpi) threaded holes; and Black arrows indicate preset holes for the main mitre. The circle marked 'A1' is the pivot point for the double mitre. The circle marked 'A2'...
