• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Seven Heirlooms - and one for my great niece, too.

Funny how the camera plays tricks as I thought exactly the same thing when I saw the image. Or maybe I need to go to Specsavers too!

The inevitable is sadly upon us…

So sorry for you and the family. Our dog is 10 now, and the first dog we have had. He had a built of a scare recently with pain which the vets couldn't identify but it did make us realise at 10 years old he's not a pup anymore. Previousy we have had 2 cats, the first wasn't with us long...

I don’t like our new induction hob

We went from an old fashioned electric to induction it felt like going from the dark ages into the future! Can't see how you'd prefer normal electric, although ours was particularly old and rubbish before we switched. Positives for me are: - I find with our Le Creuset pans it is really easy to...

    Interior doors

And people are still ripping out the original doors from 60s/70s properties now even though they are old enough to be called "period features". Hope you find some decent doors Tony

    Dehumidifiers

We have a dehumidifier which sits in our spare room. It clicks on and off during the day and is off at night because of the noise. It drastically improves the amount of condensation on the windows across the whole upstairs and doesn't really use a lot of electricity. Not calculated it...

Things have moved on in the last 8 years and KISS

Just going from gas with metal trivets to a piece of glass I'm very aware of putting pans down gently!

Things have moved on in the last 8 years and KISS

As a designer, although I'm now growing into the age where I can moan about the overcomplication of things, I've never liked "smart" this and that. It's just another way to build in obselence all the while convincing the consumer it is the best thing since sliced bread. Talking of which, smart...

I’ve treated myself for a future project.

Quite a few people making froes Mike, the green woodworing scene is alive and growing! I suspect they might fall outside your usual tool budget though ;)

    Old house in Hastings

I’m familiar with this property, the now previous owners also have an equally beautiful shop in the old town. The contents were sold over the summer as well. Not sure if they did the design themselves or had a professional but someone has a very good eye. https://www.aghendy.com/

    Mike's ext'n & renovation (solar panels)

Think that'll work very well for you Mike. We have solar with a battery but I added a pretty simple system which detects when we are exporting via clamp on our main cable and flicks the immersion heater on. This on almost all days during approx 5 months of sun keeps our hot water tank full...

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

I did a bit of an electrical upgrade on the old caravan last year. It never had a split charge from the car battery or even a charge from 240V we always had to charge via a separate battery charger. Anyway when we did it we also installed a cable and plug mounted underneath and out the back...

This looks like a lot of fun to build! Excellent craftmanship as ever.

    Restoring an electric drilling machine

Slightly off topic Andy Slightly off topic Andy, but there's a hand cranked pillar drill come up near me. I have an electric one but I like the simplicity of these hand cranked ones. Never used on though, it's like the bigger one in your photo, do you find it practical to use?

Another sewing machine, progress and help

My wife uses sewing machines for her business, but in her spare time has a small collection of Singer machines! We have 4 in the house, one not used but the two hand cranks are used by my daughters. My wife has a Lotus flower design treadle which she uses for dress making. She pretty much...

    Mini-Moravian

Missed a few recent posts, just caught up. The bench looks brilliant. I liked the way you used the 3D printed jigs to ensure you got the angles right after investing so much time in the pieces you were cutting. It's in interesting mix, which I really like, using the latest technology to enable...

Wonderfully sensitive repair. Can understand why you’d want to keep as much as possible - I would too!

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

Your camping experience is quite different to mine, even when camping in "rougher" conditions, which we do do fairly regularly, there's still always a fresh water supply in walking distance :ROFLMAO:

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

Do you think you’re over complicating the water set up Mike? Assume given the space available it will be cold water only? Both my Eriba and our basic campervan have a similar set up. Simple tap and submersible pump from a removable water container. Super easy to empty and keep clean. Our...
