• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    DSLR issue

Being a dead straight single pixel line, I'd be surprised if that's anything other than a sensor fault or sensor connection issue. It could be a poor solder connection to one pin on the sensor (whichever one corresponds to that line), which might be solvable with a soldering iron but I'd be...

    Mark

Fair enough: to each his own as they say. I've got four marking knives (well, seven if you count the three I've just made, but I'll post them later once the forum is behaving itself a bit better). I've got two Japanese single bevel knives (a left-bevel and right-bevel one), a Narex pointy...

    What is it?

    Yes...... You do  I don't 🤷‍♂️

Do you use a sticking board for drawer bottoms?

I tend to just clamp off-cuts or bits of plywood to the bench and use those. A few photos I found on a quick search (most from when I've used my travel toolchest but a few from the other benches): The next two were from before I'd found a place for the plough plane in the toolchest so I used...

No, not you @TrimTheKing, why do you always think it's about you? 😜 I've decided to make some marking knives. I only need one of them (arguably I don't need any of them!) but making a few means I've got more room for mistakes and if all goes well I can also give one to my other half to use for...

    Screw-adjusted plough plane

    @Mike G In case you haven't seen this over on the other place: a screw-adjusted #44 for £40: https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/record-044-plough-plane-complete-with-8-cutters.156779/

Cordless tool battery management for optimal usage over time... ?

I don't really know much about batteries. I used to have a NiCd Ryobi drill and the battery died on it so I bought a new one, which also died. In 2020 I bought a set of four Makita 5 Ah batteries. They live on a rack with freshly charged ones going on the right and used ones on the left, so...

WIP - my version of Dr Al’s travel tool chest and workbench

This is a good watch if you haven't seen it and don't mind paying: https://www.davidcharlesworth.co.uk/DLC/product/drawer-making-and-fitting/

WIP - my version of Dr Al’s travel tool chest and workbench

In the spirit of there always being lots of ways to do any job, David Charlesworth had an interesting approach for getting crisp shoulder lines. He would use a knife and square to cut a second shoulder line, half a millimetre or so from the proper one. He'd then do all the chopping out to to the...

    Unwanted calls

Someone I worked with in my last job apparently had a call from someone "about the accident you were involved in recently". He played along. They told him that the "other party" involved in the accident were taking legal action and therefore it was essential he did the same to protect himself...

    Unwanted calls

It's also possible that someone cancelled their contract (possibly after getting too many scam calls 🤣 ) and the service provider re-used the number for the new SIM.

Looks great to me. Well done Steve.

How would you make this stopped housing joint?

Workshop Heaven have a "mini Azebiki" with slightly more curvy teeth: This one from The Cornish Little Nomi Shop (and, in fact, the other two I looked at on that site) also seems to have a curved tip: (but the Shogun one on Workshop Heaven doesn't) 🤷‍♂️

How would you make this stopped housing joint?

Interesting that the teeth don't go to the end. For some reason I had it in my head that an Azebiki had teeth going round like my cross-cut Dozuki has: Workshop Heaven photo: I've never used an Azebiki so I'd imagine that's just me misunderstanding.

How would you make this stopped housing joint?

It's a lot quieter and more pleasant as well. If you're not in a rush (or trying to do it for profit) then hand tools are much nicer. My electric routers get used, but they're always the tool of last resort.

How would you make this stopped housing joint?

Unless I'm very much mistaken, I don't have an Azebiki so I don't think I've shown one on here!

    Domi-not

Yeah, it was just me wobbling rather than it. I very nearly kicked the tripod over and was dancing with my feet out of shot, which didn't help with my control!

    Unwanted calls

I'm fortunate in that I don't get that many scam calls. I changed my number about 20 years ago (after getting loads of spam text messages) and since then have done my best not to give my phone number to any companies. Where companies insist, I used to give them the landline number (which went...

How would you make this stopped housing joint?

Ian's described it perfectly I think. I've got some pictures of the process in the build of a shelfing unit. That had sliding dovetails rather than a housing joint or a groove, but it shows the chiselled space for the saw in the first few images.
