• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    How the Somerset Moors work

Ye gods! The document should be entitled "How the Somerset Moors Don't Work" Long term, there will always be events which overwhelm a system as complex as that - especially with climate change

    Apple Sequoia ‘trashgrade’

Why upgrade Apple iOS when you know it'll be a faff or even a disaster on such an old machine. Install a Linux OS and your problems will be over Duncan

How to deal with red tape

Very clever, and so much nicer than staples or treasury tags. Love the way you made the eye.

    Hot X buns

I was going to complain because you hadn't used any jigs - but you saved it right for the end, so you're forgiven! Brilliant little video, thanks for making it 👍👍👍

    Open Ear, Bone conduction earphones

I've been using the Shokz Aeropex for over 4 years now. They look very similar to the OpenRun Pro 2 and I bought them for jogging. I forget I'm wearing them, with or without my glasses. They don't seem overly fussy as to how they sit - in my case (short hair, male) I just put them on and go, no...

    Varifocal glasses

I have triple vision varifocals that are excellent - but they are very expensive in order to get the three lenses of a size and position that I need. Skilled fitting at the optician is an essential part of getting it right. Half a dozen attempts at bi/tri/varifocals at the high street opticians...

Setting a new bar on being anally retentive

Just covering themselves against any possible accusations of malfeasance. Seems reasonable to me - the letter they get from the client can't be altered easily

I've asked french friends what the oots and toots signs mean and they haven't got a clue. If you choose at random, you WILL get a dreaded diversion!

    Hotel booking scam - Guestreservations.com - scammers

I think you'll find that they are a USA aggregation website. They are best avoided as they have some pretty convoluted T's and C's, not intended to help the customer and presumably built around USA law rather than UK. Basically, an extra middleman, skimming their bit off the top. They do say...

Calling Scottish Cooks - traditional haggis?

With all this talk of whisky and Scottish traditions, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned a quaich: https://quaichshop.co.uk/whats-a-quaich/ As for bagpipes - I think they're great!

    Spindle gouges

Just in case you have not yet realised, the roughing gouge is properly known as a spindle roughing gouge and should never be used for turning bowls. The tang is not strong enough. Just in case you were thinking of giving it a try! A bowl gouge is somewhat like a spindle gouge (made from round...
