• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Starlink query

That was my first thought too. I bought the extra long cable so that I could have the Starlink dish on top of an outbuilding but the router where I wanted it in the house. It sounds like Adrian's problem is where the Starlink router is sited rather than where the dish is (assuming that the...

    My cyclone set up

That's really helpful, thanks. Also very ingenious use of a can or marmalade 😃

    My cyclone set up

That looks great Andy. Can I ask how you've connected the soil pipe to the vac and the machines? I've got a section of soil pipe going spare that I was thinking of using but I don't know how to couple it to anything as it doesn't fit!

Are there any cheaper alternatives to this, please ?

Keith Rag'n'bone Brown did a comparison to the Mirka on his Youtube channel a while back:

    Just a "LIDL'S" heads up...

I'm not sure what I'd ever use a winch for but at that price it's surprisingly appealing!

    Unwanted calls

I feel you pain @Steve Maskery I've got a French eSIM on my phone for when I'm in France. I leave it turned off as much as possible as it gets at least 3 cold calls per day. When I signed up for the account I was shocked to get a cold call within 2 hours - I was wondering whether I'd been given...

    Cheap small drawknife

That's a bit of an understatement if the Amazon photos of the long handled version are to be believed, although I suspect that AI may have been harmed in the making of these "photos" 😆: But in all seriousness I've been wondering about getting a small drawknife for green woodworking...

What to do with Off Cuts?

I'm glad you're all referring to proper offcuts, I see so many things online of "I'm making these using offcuts" and then they pull out a 2m long board of oak - that's not an offcut, that's a big left over piece from buying more than you needed last time!

What to do with Off Cuts?

If we send oak offcuts to landfill are we making the bog oak for the woodworkers of the year 7026?? 😁

    Oak Sleeper Raised Beds

Good question Malc. Our local place has oak sleepers at £37.50 and a softwood "Pressure treated with Eco-Friendly Tanalith wood preserver" at £21. So yes, they're notably cheaper than oak but with them being in constant contact with soil on two sides I wasn't sure of the longevity of the...

    Oak Sleeper Raised Beds

Ooh that looks really nice Andy  I'll have a read of that link and run the option past my wife who is the real gardener here

    Oak Sleeper Raised Beds

Hi all, I'm looking to build some raised beds for the veg in the garden to replace the flimsy ones I did 12 years ago. I want something that looks quite solid and structural so was thinking of using oak sleepers as, despite the painful cost, they will hopefully last as long as might want them...

    Anyone make yoghurt?

Ooooh consider my interest piqued! I feel that may have opened a new rabbit hole for me to go down as we go through a lot of kefir too!

    Anyone make yoghurt?

Ah ok that's easier, I just thought it needed to be as fresh as possible which is why I was considering freezing it, but it would only be 3 or 4 days old anyway. The recipe in the booklet is 1350ml of milk and 150ml of starter - does that sound about right with what actually works? (now I know...

    Anyone make yoghurt?

Thanks Mike! The instruction book that came with the maker said 8hours for full fat milk, 10hrs for semi, and 12hr for skimmed. I was just going off those, but I'll definitely try it for a good few hours longer next time then. What do you do with respect to the starter? I was thinking of taking...

    VCarving for the fist time

That's really cool and the result is incredible!! :D I love the use of technology to create something that just isn't really even possible by hand.

    Anyone make yoghurt?

My wife, daughter and I all have a bowl of fruit, yoghurt and kefir for breakfast each day which means we get through a lot of yoghurt, so my wife bought a yoghurt maker for us to try. Turns out you put a load of warm milk in it with a starter amount of bought yoghurt (at least to start with)...

What does a Request Timeout mean on Ping test, Now Starlink,

I'm really grateful for the bump to this thread, thanks @AndyP :) I've been on the £75/month Starlink contract for the last couple of years and it's been great, but at no point did they tell me that the cheaper plans were now available in my area. It's rare for me to get a connection over...

So..is anyone feeling, justifiably, just that little bit smug ….

I filled up just before Christmas rather than waiting till Jan/Feb and I was really glad that I did as the temperatures dropped. Even more glad now that prices are jumping up. We've also got a very tight delivery situation so have stayed with the same company even though I could probably save a...

    The chateau

I've not seen it but it looks like one of the couples in the final is a couple I've watched on Youtube (something like Restoring Number 4 as a channel name). These programmes are normally mildly entertaining, but my frustration with the challenges is that they are all centred around tight time...
